Chapter 18

If she had thought her belly was huge at 7 months she didn't know what was coming when she hit 9 months.

She looked into the mirror and held her belly knowing her baby boy would be here any day. She was a few days over due but she hadn't really thought much about it.

She was going to miss the feeling of holding life inside of her but she couldn't wait to have her baby finally in her arms.

"Babe," Simon shouted from the bedroom as he laid in bed.

"Coming," she shouted back as she put her toothbrush away and went in the bedroom.

She sat on the bed and had Simon help her take off her robe before she laid in bed.

"You're bigger than me now," Simon chuckled as he put his hands around her tummy.

"I'm carrying your child," she laughed as she held her tummy.

"I know, I can't wait till this little rascal is here," he smiled at her.

"Me either," she said as she closed her eyes and felt Simon's arms come around her.

She shut her eyes for what seemed seconds before she was woken up by a sharp pain going through her abdomen. She sat up quickly and turned on the lights which caused Simon to wake up.

"Babe what's wrong?" Simon asked as he rubbed his eyes.

"I don't know, I think he's coming, I'm not sure I just felt some pain go through me, there it goes again," she winced as she held her tummy.

"Babe, come on we're going to hospital, I'm not risking it," Simon said as he got up and began to grab the diaper bag.

He helped her walk downstairs and into the car before they headed to the hospital. He checked her in before they took her to a room were they checked how far dilated she was before letting Simon in.

"How are you doing," he asked.

"Fine, it's just these contractions really driving me mad," she smiled.

"I feel so bad baby," he smiled.

"My down there hurts," she groaned.

"I can't imagine," he said.

"They checked how far dilated I was it made my eyes water it hurt so bad," she recalled.

"How far are you?" he asked.

"3 centimeters," she said as she leaned back on the bed.

A couple of hours had passed before Laura and her mom showed up.

"I'm so nervous," she said as she walked around the halls.

"You'll do great, and it will all be worth it," her mom said.

"Yeah, you're the bravest girl I know you can do it," Laura added.

"Thank you Laura, I love you two," she laughed.

"We love you too," Laura said as they walked back into the room.

"Del Babe, I'm going to go do something's give me a call before you start pushing," her mom said as she kissed her forehead.

"I will, love you mum," she said.

"I love you too, take care baby," she said as hugged her while holding her green coat.

"Simon, babe the baby and I are hungry," Adele said as she laid on the bed.

"I'll get you something Del, I'll be back in a bit," Laura smiled.

"Thank you Laura," she smiled.

Simon massaged her back to calm the pain she felt through her back.

"Deep breath, c'mon babe breathe," he said as she breathed in deeply as she held on tightly to the bed.

"It hurts so bad," she said as she sat on the bed.

"You don't want epidural?" he asked.

"I'll wait a bit more," she said before a she got a contraction and pain shit through her abdomen and back.

"I think I'm going to get it I can't do it anymore," she breathed.

She had gotten epidural, which took about 30 minutes all together for the set up and when it kicked in, before Laura arrived with her food which was burritos from the Mexican restaurant a few minutes away.

"How are you feeling," Laura asked as she squeezed Adele's hand.

"A bit better, but I'm still in pain," she breathed before her midwife walked into the room and checked how far dilated she was.

"5 centimeters," she told Adele before she walked out of the room.

Two hours passed before they came and checked her again. She had been in lots of pain for the past 18 hours she had been in the hospital. The midwife came to check on her again and found out she was 10 centimeters dilated before she broke her water. A couple 4 or 5 doctors came into the room as she nervously looked around and tightened her grip on Simon's hand. Simon lowered his head into hers before whispering.

"Babe I'm so proud of you, you're going to do great, I love you," he said before kissing her forehead.

"I love you too," she said as she wrinkled up her face as pained soared through her body.

"You can start pushing when you're ready," the doctor said as she looked up at Adele.

"I'm ready," she said.

"Alright, take a deep breath for me and push with as much force as possible for ten seconds," the doctor instructed before she did what the doctor said.

Laura sat bitting on her nails as she watched her friend give birth.

"C'mon babe you're doing great," Simon whispered.

"Stop pushing," the doctor said as Adele continued to push.

"You're going to tear if you don't ," the nurse said as she walked to Adele's side and cleaned off the sweat the beaded on her forehead.

"His head is crowning, Adele give me all you've got," the doctor instructed as Adele starting pushing. She pushed until she saw the doctor hold the baby.

Something felt off after that.

"Why isn't my baby crying, what's wrong?!" she asked but nobody answered her question.

"Simon what's wrong, what's going on?" she asked as tears began to rapidly run down her face.

Everyone stared in confusion as the doctors handed the baby to Adele.

"Why isn't he crying?" she asked.

"He didn't make it," the doctor explained.

No words formed before she began crying as she held her son against her chest. She looked up at Simon who silently cried as he swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat.
