Chapter 3

The Next Day

Jess' P.O.V.

I woke up at looked at the clock and it's only 7. I decided to get up and shower before Adam. After I got dressed and did my hair. Then I decided to make breakfast for us before work. I made eggs with bacon and toast. Adam finally walked out of the bathroom with a smile on his face.

"This smells amazing Jess," he says.

"Eat up. We have to get going soon," I replied.

"Wanna drive together?" He asks.

I shrugged, "Sure why not."

"The only problem is if we get a case I might not be able to take you home," he says.

"Don't worry someone will drive me home," I smile.

Adam and I make our way down to his car. I tried to hop in the drivers seat but he laughed and wouldn't give me the keys. I gave up and hopped in the passenger seat. When we got to the district Adam and I said hi to Trudy and went upstairs. Adam and I were surprising early the only other ones here other than Antonio and the blonde chick. I pulled up a chair next to Adam and went to put my photo equipment in the locker room. Someone grabs my waist from behind and I spin around quickly.

"Hey beautiful," Jay smiles.

"Hi!" I squeal and kiss him.

"No PDA here, Adam can't see us together. " he says.

"He's not going to see us," I say wrapping my arms around his neck.

We then hear someone coming. We both go back to both of our lockers. I look over and that blonde chick goes over to Jay and they start talking. She starts flirting with him so I try to ignore them. Her and Jay walk over to me.

"So Jess I'd like you to meet Hailey Upton, my new partner," he says.

I fake a smile and shake her hand, "It's nice to meet you."

"I should be getting back upstairs. I look forward to working with you," she replies and leaves.

I turn to Jay, "Guess you two have something going on." I roll my eyes and walk out.

I walk to my chair at Adams desk. I start scrolling on instagram while the rest of the unit catches up on paperwork. I look over at Jay who keeps looking at me. I blush a little and start scrolling twitter. Adam gives me a look of death.

"What," I say annoyed.

"What's making you blush?" He asks.

"Just saw some cute guy on Instagram," I lie.

"Time to go. Bodies were found and we have to go check it out. Jess you have to come too," Voight explains.

I go to the locker room to get my equipment and Adam poked his head in.

"You're riding with Al and I today. You have to stay away from Jay for a while," Adam explains.

I roll my eyes, "I'm coming."

I follow him out and to the car. I hop in the back seat and give Al a small smile. Al has been like a second father to us since he pulled Adam out of the academy. We get out of the car and see the tarps over the bodies. I take a breath and remove the first tarp. It's a child. I feel like I'm going to throw up but I push past and start taking photos. 

"This DOA is a child," I yell to the rest of the unit.

All of a sudden an all black SUV pulls up. 

"No one's allowed in this area," Voight shouts at them.

They roll down their window and I see a gun sticking out pointing right at me. It's like my feet are stuck to the ground and I can't move.

Jay's P.O.V.

"Gun!" Voight yells.

I look over at Jess. She screams as she goes down.

"Cover me!" I yell and run towards Jess.

I grab her and drag her behind a car. I can tell she is already starting to loose a lot of blood. She is going in and out of consciousness. I hear Al call for an Ambo. Ruzek is running over to me.

Jess' P.O.V.

The last thing I remember is Jay and Adam yelling at me to try and stay awake. I fight it as long as I can before I give in and pass out.
