A Jay Halstead Love Story

Chapter 23

Jess' P.O.V:

I hear loud voices in the room and I slowly open my eyes. I see Jay talking to Adam and Will.

"Hey boys," I smile. "What are you doing here?

"We brought gifts and some pizza," Will replies.

"I brought the pizza," Adam smiles.

I laugh, "I wouldn't expect anything less,"

"Would you like me to open the gifts or are you going to do it?" Jay asked.

"I want to," I squealed.

Jay handed me the gifts. I opened Will's gift first and it was a cute little dress and a very soft, pink, blanket. Next I opened Adam's gift. It was a little teddy bear dressed as a police officer.

"Thank you both so much," I smile at them.

"You guys have to see her," Jay says.

"Are you sure?" Will asks. "We don't want to bother you guys."

"You aren't bothering us, I promise," I smile.

A little while later the nurse comes back with Isabella. Will and Adam's faces light up like a little kid on Christmas. They are mesmerized by her.

"Would you like to try and breast feed her?" The nurse asks.

I shrug, "Sure, why not."

"Everyone out," Jay laughs. "I'm not letting them see this."

All the boys leave the room. At first she wouldn't latch on so I started getting frustrated. When she finally started drinking I squealed because I was so excited. All of a sudden Jay, Adam and Will come running back in, guns drawn.

"What's wrong?" Jay asked holding his gun.

The nurse laughed, "The baby is finally drinking so Jess got excited and yelled."

Jay and Adam put their guns back.

"Well thank god nothing is wrong," Jay chuckled.

All day people were coming in and out congratulating us and wanting to see Isabella. It was a long and fun day but very exhausting. Finally at the end of the day we both fell asleep in the bed with little Isabella in her bassinet next to us.

The Next Day...

I woke up at 6AM to Isabella crying. I got out of bed and changed her. Then we sat in the chair and I started to feed her. She slowly started to fall asleep again so I put her back in the bassinet. I decided to go to the cafeteria to grab a little something to eat. On my way back I ran into Will.

"Hey Will," I smiled at him.

"Hi Jess, how's the mom life so far?" He asks.

"So far so good," I laugh. "She already woke up, so I fed her then put her back to bed."

"I have to double check everything but I'm pretty sure you guys can go home later," He explains.

"That would be amazing!" I smile wide.

"Don't take my word on that," He laughs. "I have to double check first."

"Fine," I pout. "I should go check on my baby and her daddy. He's going to need his coffee."

"I'll see you later," He gives me a hug then walks away.

I walk back to the room and see Jay awake holding Isabella. I stand in the doorway and watch the two of them. I smile to myself thinking about how good of a dad Jay is going to be with Isabella. I watch them for a few more minutes before walking into the room.

"Hey dad, need coffee," I can't help but smile.

"Thank you," He kisses my forehead.

"Want me to hold her?" I ask.

"You relax, I got her," He replies.

As Jay finished his sentence she starts crying. I can see him start to panic a little. He puts down his coffee and starts rocking her.

"Jay she might need her diaper changed or she needs to be fed," I laugh.

He puts her down in the bassinet and checks her diaper and it's clean. He tries to put her binky in and she spits it out at him and screams. He starts to panic more and he looks like he's going to cry. I take her from him and try to feed her. She takes it and becomes quiet.

"I couldn't help her," He says upset.

"You can't help it. I haven't pumped yet so the only way to feed her is me," I reassured him.

"I don't know if I will be a good dad," He pouts.

"Jay Halstead you will be an amazing dad! You just don't have boobs to feed her," I laugh.

Just then Will walks in.

"How is everyone?" He asks.

"Tired," Jay laughs. "Uh Will do you mind, Jess is feeding Isabella."

"Jay it's fine," I roll my eyes. "Do you have any good news?"

"You guys are allowed to go home," He smiles. "Just have to fill out these discharge papers."

I stop feeding Isabella and put her in the bassinet.

Jay's P.O.V:

I give Will a look and he hands Jess the papers.

"Hey babe I'm going to go grab an apple quick, I'll be right back," I kiss Jess.

"Hurry back, I want to bring my baby home," She smiles.

I walk out of the room and down the hall with Will next to me.

"Did you call Cara and Adam already?" I ask.

"They are already at your house decorating and they should have called the whole unit." Will smiles.

"And you are getting off soon?" I question.

"I'm already off so let me go to your house," He chuckles.

I give him a bro hug and walk back to Jess' room. She already put Isabella's coat on and dressed herself.

"Ready to go home?" I ask.

"I've been ready," She smiles.
