Chapter 4

Adam's P.O.V.

I'm in the waiting room in Chicago Med pacing back and forth waiting for Will to come back with some kind of news. After 5 minutes I go to ask the front desk but I see Will coming out. I rush over to him.

"How is she?" I ask worried.

"She's very lucky," he smiles. "The bullet hit her shoulder but luckily missed a major artery. But she did lose alot of blood. She will be in a sling for 2-3 weeks."

"She's not going to be able to do anything," I reply. "Can I go see her?"

"Room 3. She's been sedated but should be waking up soon. Would you like me to tell the team?" He asks.

"Please," I say starting to walk to her room.

I look in her room and she's lying on the bed with an IV in her arm. She looks so peaceful. I kiss her forehead then pull up a chair next to her and grab her hand.

"You're thankfully going to be okay. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I feel bad for not protecting you." I say getting choked up. "Please wake up soon." A tear rolls down my cheek.

I sit there in silence waiting for her to wake up. The only movement you can see is her chest rising and falling with each breath. It is a little relaxing because I know she will be fine and she's still breathing.

"I'm so sorry for not protecting you. I will be a better brother and look out for you more. At crime scenes I will make sure to cover every angle and make sure there is no one in sight. And next time you're wearing a vest even though you hate that." I chuckled a little thinking about the first time Voight made her wear a vest.

I hear a knock at the door and look up. It's Jay and Kev. They gave me a sympathetic smile.

"We heard the news. At least she's going to be okay," Kevin says.

"If you want to go home and shower we would be more then happy to watch over her for you." Jay says.

I shoot Jay a look, "No thanks, I'll stay here to make sure nothing happens."

"Adam, I apologized for last night. We are in a hospital what do you think will happen?" He asks annoyed.

"Who knows," I roll my eyes. "She better not be a re-bound."

"Are you kidding?" He replies.

Jess' P.O.V.

I hear people loudly arguing. I feel this stabbing pain in my shoulder. I let out a small cry and open my eyes. Adam, Kevin and Jay were all looking at me. I try to speak and nothing comes out.

"Hey don't speak yet," Adam says. "You're going to be out for 2-3 weeks Will said."

"Wh-Why? Wh-what Ha-happened?" I asked.

"You got shot in the shoulder," Jay sighed. "You did lose a lot of blood so Will needs you to stay overnight."

"Jay can you stay with me?" I ask.

Jay looks at Adam. "It's his call. I don't want to step on toes."

"I'd feel more comfortable staying here with her," Adam states.

I sigh, "Can you at least go home and get my favorite blanket please to put on my bed and help me sleep?"

"Yes I can," Adam smiles. "Kev stay here please, I should be back in an hour."

Adam kisses my head then leaves me alone with Jay and Kevin. Kevin raises his eyebrow to me as if asking what's going on.

"Hey Jay? Do you mind getting me a Gatorade from the vending machine?" I ask.

"Sure, do you want blue or orange?" He replies.

"Orange please," I smile. "Do you want money for that?"

"This ones on me," he chuckles then leaves.

I look at Kevin, "Yes there is something going on. I'm not exactly sure what though. And no Adam doesn't exactly know."

He raises an eyebrow. "So what happened that's makes him not trust you two?"

"When I got home the other day you guys had a big case and Adam wouldn't be home late. So Jay thought it would nice to go to Molly's and get some drinks. One thing led to another and Adam caught him trying to leave my room in the morning," I say.

"Did you guys, you know?" He questions.

"Yes, we did," I reply. "But Adam doesn't know. He just thinks that I had a nightmare and Jay slept with me. Do NOT say ANYTHING to Adam. You have to promise!"

"I promise I won't say anything," he laughs. "I won't even tell Jay I know."

Eventually Adam came back and Jay and Kevin left. 

"What were you and Jay arguing about?" I ask.

"How about I tell you tomorrow." He replies.

Will brought in a cot then Adam and I drifted to sleep.
