A Jay Halstead Love Story

Chapter 15

            

Jess' P.O.V.

            I was crying so hard my body was shaking. I know this stress isn't good for the baby but I can't help it.

            "Can I go with him?" I ask Gabby.

            "Sorry we can't have anyone in here," She says.

            I nod and watch the ambulance pull away. I keep crying when someone pulls me into a hug. I look up and it's Adam. I cry into his chest for a little longer.

            "Voight said I can drive you to the hospital if you would like," He says softy.

            "Please," I say through tears.

            We start to walk over to the cars when Kevin comes running over.

            "They already caught the guy who shot Jay," He smiled softly then he hugged me. "I'll be up there soon little homie. Call me if you need anything."

            Adam and I walk to the car. I don't even bother fighting Adam on whose driving because I know I shouldn't be. The ride to Med felt like it was taking hours to get there. When we finally parked I ran into med and spotted Will.

            "How is he?" I ask trying not to cry.

            "He's in surgery right now. The bullet went in near his collar bone so it is going to take some time before they can safely remove it. I'll keep you updated," He explains.

A Few Hours later...

            I keep pacing around the waiting room. Waiting for Will to come out with some kind of good news. Adam walks over to where I am.

            "Please go sit down, Will promised he would tell us more when he knew what was going on," He pulled me in for a hug.

            "I know but I'm scared. I need him Adam. This baby needs a father," I whisper.

            I see Will come out from the back and I run towards him almost knocking him over.

            "I'll just cut to the chase. We were able to get the bullet out of his shoulder. The bullet did break his collarbone so we had to do surgery to fix it. He's not quite out of the woods yet but he should recover nicely over the next few weeks." Will explains.

            "Can I please go see him?" I ask.

            "Of Course," He smiles softly. "Room 4."

            I run to Jay's room. He is sitting with a bunch of wires coming out of him and he has a sling on his right arm. It makes me so sad to see him like this. I pull up a chair next to his bed and grab his hand. I hear a knock at the door and look up. I see Hank standing there.

            "Is he going to be okay?" He asks.

            "In a few weeks," I sigh. "He's going to be so sad that he can't work."

            "Tell me the truth Jess. Are you two together?" He questions.

            I smile, "Yes, we've been together for a while now. I'm sorry we didn't tell you but we know how you don't like relationships in your unit."

            "You two are amazing cops and I know you won't let your relationship get in the way so I'll let it slide," He smiled.

            "Thank you so much Hank! You won't regret it," I say excitedly.

            "I'll send Adam and Kevin up here," He replies.

            "Please do," I say.

            A little while later Adam and Kevin were at the door. As soon as I saw them I started crying again. I know Jay will be fine but I am just scared. Adam gives me a big hug.

            "How are you holding up?" Adam questions.

            "Could be a lot better," I shrug.

Jay's P.O.V:

            I feel a sharp pain in my collarbone that wakes me out. I cry out in pain and open my eyes. I see three figures standing in front of me. I blink a few times and notice it's Jess, Adam and Kevin.

            "Hi," I say softly.

            Jess comes running over to my side and grabs my hand.

            "Do you need pain meds?" She asks.

            I nod my head at her. She leaves to go get a doctor. I talk to Adam and Kevin for a few minutes until Jess and Will walk in. Will tells me that I should be able to get discharged tomorrow morning, then he leaves.

            "Jess, please don't stay. Go home and sleep in your bed. The baby needs you to sleep," I say.

            "No I want to stay with you," She frowns.

            "Go home with Adam please, I will see you in the morning," I smile.

            She finally agrees, kisses me, and then leaves. After, Will gives me more pain meds so I fall asleep.
