Arielle's PoV

"Dang girl, you look like a hot mess." Jason spoke as he pushed past me, entering the house.
"Dads been making me clean all day. Apparently we have guests over tonight." I rolled my eyes, shutting the front door and following Jason into the front room.
"You want any help?" He scanned his eyes around the room only to see that it was spotless.
"I've finished everything. Should've come round earlier." I snickered, grabbing the remote for the tv and falling back on the sofa, Jason doing the same.

Jason was my best friend of 8 years. We met back in 8th grade when he helped me through the loss of my mother. We've been there for each other ever since. I was there throughout his coming out. That was amazing and I have so much respect for him as I knew how hard it was for him. Now he's learnt not to give a shit about what anyone thinks of him.

"I'm going to make a sandwich, you want anything?" He asked, letting out a yawn as he stood up.
"I'm good thanks, jay." I smiled.
For about five years now, Jason has felt fully comfortable in my home. He gets up and gets himself food whenever he feels like it and sometimes, if the front door his locked, he'll hop the back fence and stroll through the back door. He's done that a couple of times when I've been home alone and he's scared the shit out of me. One time, I almost knocked him out with a baseball bat as I thought he was an intruder. Let's just say, I have never heard him scream that high in my entire life of knowing him.

As I flicked through the channels on tv, the front door opened and in walked my dad.
"Hi, honey." He smiled at me.
"Hey da- oh." Jason walked in with a ham sandwich on a plate.
"You weren't talking to me." He bowed his head as he walked past my dad, sitting beside me on the sofa again.
"Hello to you too, Jason." My Dad chuckled as he hung his coat up on the hanger.
"Hi." He gave my dad a small wave before turning to me.
"So rude." He whispered sarcastically, making me laugh.
"Hey! I heard that." My Dad laughed from the kitchen.
"I love you Michael!" Jason shouted back.

I shook my head, laughing at my best friend as I settled on a music channel.
"I'll be back." I quickly said to Jason before getting up and heading to the kitchen where my dad was.

"How was work?" I asked, reaching for an apple in the fruit bowl.
"Stressful." Dad sighed, placing his glasses down on the work surface and rubbing his hands over his face.
"Thanks for doing the house work by the way." He looked at me with a small smile.
"It's ok. I wouldn't want to add anymore stress on top of what you've got now." I took a bite out of the apple, letting the juice fill my mouth. I love apples. Just thought I'd let you know. Well known fact of Arielle.
"Anyways." I swallowed my mouthful.
"Who are these guests over tonight?" I asked.
"Well..." He began. He placed his hands on the island counter top and looked at me. He seemed a little guilty. Why?
"I've been seeing someone." He spoke softly. My heart broke a little. Dad has only ever had one girlfriend since mum died and that only lasted for a few weeks. I don't think he was in the right mind space for a relationship.
"You have?" I asked. Why didn't he tell me about this sooner?
"Is she your girlfriend?" I questioned, taking another chunk out of my apple.
"It's not like that when you get older." He chuckled softly.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"We don't necessarily put labels on it but yes, I guess she's my girlfriend." He nodded his head. I noticed the grin on his face. He seemed happy.
"What's her name?" I asked.
"Her name is Kelly. She has a son called Noah and they're going to be over at around-" my dad started, flicking his eyes over to the kitchen clock.
"7. So two hours." He finished. I nodded my head, finishing off my apple and tossing it into the bin.
"Is Jason staying for dinner?" He asked.
"I don't think so." I shook my head.
"Ok. Well, I'm going to start dinner. Get yourself ready soon." He spoke.
"Will do." I sent him a small thumbs up before rushing back to the front room to see Jason with a quirked eyebrow and the tv muted.
"Your Dad has a new girlfriend?!" He asked, shock evident in his voice.
"Shush will you." I placed a finger over my lips.
"Were you earwigging in on our conversation?" I asked.
"Maybe." He fought back a smile.
"Idiot." I laughed, pushing him lightly.

"What are you smiling at?" I asked Jason. He had been smiling at his phone for the past ten minutes whilst I tried to pick out an outfit for tonight. Dad had said to dress nicely and not in my normal slobbish attire. His words, not mine.
"Nothing." Jay quickly put his phone down, looking up at me.
"Oh yeah, I like that one." He pointed towards the black dress I held up.
"I'm throwing it out, it's revolting." I scrunched my nose up, tossing it on my bedroom floor. Note to self, clear up before they come later. I know the dinner won't be held in my room but it also makes me feel a little better.
"Oh." Was all he said before his phone went off.

He looked at me as if to say "I'm not going to look at that". I smirked, quickly lunging forward and grabbing his phone.
"Ari, Hey!" He attempted to snatch it out of my hand but I stood up, running to the corner of the room. He was quick to chase me.
"Ooooo, Brandon." I wiggled my eyebrows at him.
"Give it back!" He groaned, finally reaching forward and taking the phone from me. I didn't have a chance to read this message. Dang it.
Jason gave me a frown before he stomped back over to my bed again, laying on it.
"So, who is he?" I asked before going back to my wardrobe.
"Just some guy." He shrugged his shoulders, texting whoever this person was, back.
"Just some guy, eh?" I smirked.
"Yes." He nodded his head.
"You like him?" I questioned.
"He's straight, Arielle." He rolled his eyes.
"And what about it?" I giggled.
"We're not talking like that." Jay groaned.
"Ok." I raised my eyebrows, completely not believing his answer.
"Like I said, he's straight." He repeated himself.
"I know, I heard you earlier." I pulled another dress out of my wardrobe. Why do I have so many of these things? I never wear them. Maybe I need to do a de-clutter at some point.
"Hey, I like that one." Jason sat up, looking at the dress with his eyes wide.
I looked at it. It was ok. The dress was a red silk colour, it coming down to about mid thigh.
"Don't you think it's too dressy?" I asked, putting emphasis on the word 'too'.
"Not at all." He shook his head frantically.
"With your hair straight, you'd look hella sexy in it." He smirked.
"I have to straighten my hair?" I asked with a groan.
"I'll do it for you." He stood up, walking over to my dressing table and getting the straighteners out. I had naturally curly hair but jay always says how much he prefers it straight. I probably do too but the effort to keep up with it is too much.
"Thanks." I smiled at him.

That's why I loved Jay. He could do many stuff I couldn't be bothered too.
