Arielle's PoV

Waking up to the sound of my phone ringing, wasn't how I planned my morning to go.
I grumbled, reaching over for my phone. I didn't open up my eyes as I answered it, pressing it to my ear.

"Hello." My voice was croaky. It was obvious I had just woken.
"Hi. Is this Arielle Hartman?" The man asked on the other side of the phone. My eyes shot open and I gulped. This sounds important.
"Yes, yes it is. It is I." Why? Why did I say that? For fuck sake. I sat up, brushing my hair out of my face with my hand.
"Hello Arielle, this is Jim from Zara. I noticed you had applied for a customer assistance job online." He spoke. Oh shit... the job. Jason and I messed around the other week, applying for jobs for the hell of it.
"Oh yes." I nodded my head, nervously biting on my bottom lip.
"I'd like to plan an interview with you. Is that ok?" He asked.
"Of course." Oh god.
"Great. Is Monday at 11 ok?" He questioned. What was the day today? I quickly hopped off my bed, rushing over to my calendar and grabbing a pen. The day today was Friday meaning that I had three days to prepare myself for this interview.
"Yep, that should be fine." I pursed my lips. What have I gotten myself into?
"Perfect. I'll look forward to seeing you then." He spoke.
"You too." I gulped. I was not looking forward to seeing him at all.

I wrote it down in my calendar in case I forgot. I may not even show up but if I do, I have the date and time down.

I made my way back over to my bed, opening up my messages to Jason.

TO JAY
Perfect.

Great, so now I could have a possible job. I mean, I kind of need one. I am 20, living at home with my single father, jobless. It's about time. I can't keep relying on my dad to pay for my car and stuff. He's got things of his own to pay off, like the house bills for instance.

What even was the time?
I looked at my phone. 10:34. Huh, not bad. I then noticed some notifications. Instagram being the main one. It was Noah. He had left me several messages last night after I left him on read.

@ncentineo and ignoring my messages? Wow.

@ncentineo Oi

@ncentineo Arielle Hartman, answer me

@ncentineo ugh, you're so stupid

@ncentineo we're never going to get along

@ncentineo just know, I'm going to find pure joy with winding you up

@ncentineo goodnight, you rat

I scoffed. Rat? Is that the biggest insult he could give me?

@ariellehartman I'm so offended by your name calling

I locked my phone, getting out of bed and grabbing the nearest hoodie so I could throw it over my top half. It was quite chilly this morning.

I lazily walked into my bathroom, having my morning pee and brushing my teeth before I went downstairs. I'll shower in a bit. I was too tired and hungry at the moment. Dad was most probably at work now. He worked as an accountant so he got pretty good money coming in. We weren't a poor family.

Just as I popped my toast in the toaster, the front door went. Thinking it was Jason, I ran up to it, pulling it open with a grin. My eyes widened at the person standing there. This certainly wasn't Jason.
"I didn't realise you'd be this happy to see me." Noah smirked before moving his eyes down my body, examining my outfit. I was in bed shorts and a tank top that was covered by my hoodie.
"What are you doing here?" I rolled my eyes.
"It's nice to see you too. May I come in?" He asked.
"No." I shook my head.
"Well I've had orders from your dad to come and check up on you." He flashed me his phone where there was a clear message from my dad.

FROM MICHAEL
Hi Noah. I'm guessing your mum told you about the house news? Arielle hasn't taken it quite well and has ignored me ever since. You wouldn't mind checking up on her today, would you? Thank you.

Ugh.

"So you've been ignoring your dad?" He asked, shoving his phone in his pocket.
"I wouldn't really say ignoring, just not paying attention." I shrugged my shoulders, turning on my heel and walking back to the kitchen where I heard my toast pop up. I heard Noah mumble something under his breath and then the front door close. I guess he followed me in.
"You should really cut him some slack. It's only moving house." He spoke, watching as I grabbed a knife out of the drawer and the butter out of the fridge.
"Just a house?!" My voice raised slightly as I turned to look at him.
"You couldn't even begin to understand." I shook my head at him, grabbing my toast and throwing it onto the kitchen side. I didn't need a plate. It's just more washing up and fuck that.
"Help me understand then." He rested his elbows up on the kitchen island as he watched me take a bite out of my buttered toast.
"I don't want to talk about it." I spoke with my mouth full.
"Sexy." He snickered.
"Shut up." I groaned before taking both pieces of toast into the front room.

"Have I done something?" Noah followed me, standing directly in front of the tv so I couldn't work it.
"Move." I swatted him with the controller, he winced and stepped aside, sitting on the sofa opposite me.
"Why don't you like me?" He asked.
"Because I don't." I took another bite of my toast.
"That's not a reason." He said.
"It's just that... I can't believe I have you as a stepbrother." I groaned, looking at Noah who kicked his feet up on the coffee table.
"And I can't believe I have you as a stepsister." He mocked my words, sending a smirk my way. Ugh he's so annoying.
Noah and I are never going to be acquaintances, let alone friends.
This whole stepbrother and stepsister thing, sucks.
