Final Operation

Life, she realized that was like an operation. Battling with day-to-day circumstances of pain, happiness and excitement of what could happen next after a serious battle of life and death.

Few hours ago, he was here with her and next thing she knew he was gone. Forever. The moment that Heather vanished through the thin air, she felt the emptiness of her heart. Heather was the only guy that made her heart flutter and complete, feel in the gaps of her personality and weak points and made her realize what is the real meaning of love.

For the next few days, she would normally woke up with puffy cheeks from crying overnight and feeling groggy the next morning. There are times that she wants to sulk herself in bed for the rest of the day but there is someone whispering to her that she deserve to give herself a new life to breathe. She knows that Heather is beside her, guarding her.

She know that mourning has its own expiration but for her, it was part of her everyday life. Diether would come by to their house to see what she's been doing but the moment she saw him, memories of Heather came back in an instant that would make her burst into tears. Diether was a total replica of Heather as they are identical twins. The only difference of Diether and Heather was in their way of thinking and analyzing things. Heather has a High Intelligence Quotient (IQ) compared to Diether that is why he is the heir of their company.

"Everything will be okay.." Comforting words of Diether felt like he was in the arms of Heather. Diether wrapped his arms around Rian and wait for her until she calmed down. Diether knows how much she love her is not enough to cover up the pain of loss she'd been suffering right now.

Sometimes, she was relieving the memories that they had shared for past 100 days. She would take a look on the old photo album and reminisce the time the photos were taken. Listening to Heather's favorite song, "Ikaw Lamang" and hugging Heather's sweater, which she found comforting.

She jerted awake upon hearing the voice of a man that is calling out her name. "Rian." The voice of the man seems familiar to her. She saw a man that is standing few meters from her and facing her direction. Hirap siyang maaninag ang mukha ng lalaki dahil sa sinag ng liwanag na tumatama dito. Dahan-dahan siyang tumayo mula sa pagkakaupo sa ilalim ng isang puno at inikot ng tingin ang buong paligid.

"Be happy, be happy.. try to love my brother. I will wait for you.." With that note, she woke up with tears on her eyes.

Diether explained everything to her kung ano ba talaga ang napagkasunduan nila ni Heather. Heather was the one to begged to him na hiramin pansamantala ang katawan ni Diether para makasama siya kahit sa huling pagkakataon bago ito tuluyan ng mamaalam.

On the same day na naaksidente sila, Diether was also involved in another accident pero it was a mutual desisyon para palabasin na siya ang namatay instead of Heather. Heather was the forerunner in the family and all of their relatives ay hindi nais mapasakamay ni Diether ang kumpanya because of his low IQ and skills. Inamin ni Diether na mahirap sa sitwasyon niya na kahit ang mismong kamag-anak niya ang nagdodown sa kaniyang pagkatao. Masakit man na nawalan ng kuya at mawalan ng totoong pagkatao ay kinakailangan niya iyon gawin for the sake of his family's reputation. After the accident, namuhay siya na parang si Heather but his real identity will be forever forgotten. Heather's soul can be seen by Diether kaya natulungan siya nito kung paano ang mamuhay bilang si Heather but except for one thing, Diether cannot replace Heather on Rian's heart. Malimit na binabantayan ni Heather si Rian since then kaya alam nito kung ano ang ginagawa nito magmula pa noon bago siya nito nilapitan.

Diether's explanation made Rian cried once again. She realized that kahit wala na ito sa mundo ay tanging kaligtasan niya parin ang iniisip ni Heather. Maybe, that's love after all. Heather's unconditional love to Rian.

Diether knows na walang sikreto ang hindi nabubunyag. He knows that his brother wanted him na magkaroon ng sariling buhay, on his own. He told himself that no matter what happens, ipagtatanggol niya ang sarili sa kanilang mga kamag-anak.

Diether explained everything to their friends. At first, no one would believe in him except Jayson who had his own suspicions about him. Jayson revealed that he once saw him talking to himself. He thought that he was seeing things because of the accident. Jayson admitted that he wasn't able to heard clearly the conversation as it was like a murmur and he can't see the one he's talking with.

Everything fall on its right pieces. Diether had his one-on-one talk with his parents. His parents begged forgiveness to him for everything and which he readily accepted.

FOR THE next few years, Diether and Rian remained as good friends. Rian graduated Cum Laude and same with Diether. Rian know that it was Heather's dream as well to finish her studies with flying colors. Rian opened up a Foundation para sa mga out-of-school youth. Ito kasi ang isa sa mga pangarap nila ni Heather. Sinindihan ni Rian ang dala nitong kandila, tinanggal ang mga damong tumubo sa puntod nito at marahang pinunasan ito bago nilagay ang dalang bulaklak. Hindi na namalayan ni Rian na nasa likuran na pala nito si Diether. Diether hand a letter to Rian. "What's this?" She asked. "A letter from him.." He said in a low voice. Rian immediately opened the letter. "He told me to give this to you on this day as today, you and him first met.." Diether continued.

Minamahal kong Rian,

Kamusta ka na? Sana ay nasa mabuti kang kalagayan, sana ay inaalagaan ka ng aking kakambal at ikaw ay masaya dahil iyon lang ang aking kahilingan. Araw araw kong susubaybayan ang iyong mga kilos at gawi, maaaring wala man ako physically pero andito lang ako para sa iyo. Hindi ko kaya na ikaw ay makitang lumuluha dahil wala na ako diyan upang iyan ay punasan. Huwag mong kakalimutan kung gaano kita kamahal at dahil diyan ay ikaw akin ng papalayain upang magmahal ng iba.

Mahal na mahal kita Rian. Huwag mo iyan kakalimutan.

Minsan sa buhay may mga taong pinagtagpo pero hindi itinadhana, ay minsan naman tama ang oras at panahon pero ito ay nailan mo sa maling tao. Maaaring kami ni Heather ay pinagtagpo pero itinadhana. I was high school back then I first met the man of my dreams and I never regret any moment of it but rather I cherished every single moment na nagkasama kami kahit sa maikling panahon ay naramdaman ko ang tunay na pagmamahal ng isang Heather Alexander Morone.
