Wednesday
It's been days since I found out about Elizabeth's sickness. She was back to school, but I haven't been talking to her. I was too upset.
Good thing the second quarter exams were happening this week, I had a reason to be busy. Or at least, pretend to be busy.
I tried to focus on the exams, reviewing a lot at home. But somehow, the thought of Elizabeth kept creeping into my mind in the late hours of the night.
Donghyuck and the others have noticed it. The moment I looked away when she walked into the room on Monday morning, they knew something was wrong, again. And the fact that she didn't join us at lunch that day and yesterday, they knew something was up.
I had no idea if she told them already, though. It doesn't seem that she did, nobody was talking about it.
Until lunch time came.
10:58 a.m. I finished putting my things in my bag and stood up from my seat, then I turned to Donghyuck. "Let's go, Hyuck."
We just finished our Math exam, which was today. We've already taken the other major subject exams in the past two days. Tomorrow is just the passing of projects in Music and Homeroom, and on Friday is our practicals on P.E. class.
I was walking towards the door when I heard Donghyuck talk to Elizabeth.
"Areum, let's eat lunch together." He told her.
I stopped to look at them. Elizabeth just gave him a half smile.
"You guys go ahead. I'm not hungry. I'll... see you later."
"Come on, you haven't been joining us since last week. We miss you." He insisted.
She glanced at me, but quickly averted her eyes when she saw me gazing at her. "I'm really not hungry, Hyuck."
"Let's go, Hyuck. She doesn't wanna eat with us." I said a bit too coldly.
Donghyuck turned to me, his face a bit surprised. But it changed to disappointment in a matter of seconds. Then he just sighed and told her, "okay. I'll see you later."
Elizabeth walked past me, quickly shuffling her feet out of the room and not turning around to look at us. She just disappeared into the hallways.
I felt sad and empty.
I wanted her to join us at lunch. I wanted to talk to her. I missed talking to her, and hanging out with her. I missed being with her, generally.
