I pushed open the door to my house. A hand pulled me back and I looked over my shoulder. I rolled my eyes.
"Please-!" Soda started.
I tugged away from him and slammed the door in his face. I locked the door.
"Summer Cade is that you?! Why were you gone for a whole week?!"
I sighed and stood tall. "Mom, this is crap! I'm sick of you yelling at me for leaving when you abuse me!!!"
"That's not abuse! It's scolding!" She yelled entering the living room. She had brought the belt... This time I wasn't gonna stay still.
"You call getting stitches scolding?!" I scowled.
"Anything that hurts..." She smirked and waddled over to me... She slammed me to the ground before I could count to three. I struggled to get up... The leather belt against my skin stung worse than a bee ever could... I went reach for my switch... I couldn't, she's my mom... I wouldn't be able to hurt her like that! Not even if she was gonna kill me.
Loud knocking pounded on the door. "Summer!"
I cursed under my breath as my mom pushed my head to the ground and got up. She grabbed a knife and unlocked the door. I silently got up and trotted behind her. She opened the door and I sliced her shoulder with my switch. She turned around hardly missing Soda when she plunged the knife towards him. I raced past her and grabbed Sodapop's wrist. We raced down the street.
"Holy crap... She was swallowed by the monster!!!" Soda exclaimed. A car started behind us... My mom...
"Yeah!" I huffed and turned a corner.
"Where are we goin'?" Soda asked worriedly.
"Just follow me...!" I growled. I dragged him along, he wasn't as fast as me so he about face planted a few times. I skidded to a stop at a sewage drain. I grunted and lifted the lid.
"Really?!" Soda groaned.
I looked up at Sodapop. "Do you want to die or get severely injured?!" I yelped.
"Uh..."
"Come on dummy!!!" I snarled pulling him into the sewage. I slid down and dragged the lid into its place. I took out my matches and lit one.
"How did you-?" Soda started.
"Stole 'em..." I replied pushing against the walls. I tossed paper bags at Soda. "Put 'em on your feet...." I instructed as I did the process.
I rushed through the pipes hearing the splashing of the nasty water.
"Do you do this often?" He asked.
"When I need a place to hide out..." I replied.
Soda sighed, "You know you can come to our place..."
"Well, I never wanted to embarrass my brother..." I said hesitantly.
"Oh... I-I'm sorry about Johnny..." Sodapop said.
"I-it's fine... I mean he wasn't my real brother... Why should it matter? I'm adopted..." I sobbed quietly.
"I didn't mean-"
"No-one does..." I huffed.
"I-" Soda started.
"No-one is... No-one is sorry...!" I scowled. "My mother couldn't care less that Johnny died!!! Not if anyone died!!! Ever since my father went missing it's only been worse...!"
Soda mumbled something under his breath... Something inaudible.
"What?!" I asked demanding him to say it louder.
He mumbled slightly louder but still inaudible.
"I can't hear you...!" I scowled.
Sodapop sighed, "I said..." He hesitated a few seconds before finishing. "I said you're cute when you're angry or upset!" He winced.
"Liar..." I scoffed.
"Really-" he started.
"We're here..." I snarled. I lifted the sewage top and crawled out. I help Sodapop out and slid the lid back in place. "I'm sorry.."
"No, I understand..." He said.
"What you said... Did you really mean it?" I asked.
"Y-yeah..." Sodapop said looking away.
I elbowed him... His face a cherry red. "Well, I've been wonderin' why all the girls go crazy for you... Now I know why!" I smiled.
