We arrived home with Two-bit sitting on the floor chugging a beer and watching Mickey Mouse, Ponyboy doing homework in the shared bedroom, Darry at work, and Steve with Evie. I looked at Sodapop and smiled. "Hey babe, I'm gonna take a walk ok?" I said.
"Oh... Um... Ok," He stuttered.
"Love ya!" I mumbled pecking his cheek. I rushed out the door, down the stairs and onto the sidewalk. I was heading towards the Soc neighborhood. I knew what I was doing. I knew where I was going. I was going home, to check on my mom. Soon I arrived at the house and I slowly pushed open the door. Nothing... I walked upstairs... Nothing. I rushed into the kitchen, nothing. I figured she was hiding and when she does; it's never good. I felt a leather strap press against my throat. I tightened my grip on it and tried to pull it away. My mom was behind me, choking me with a belt. I should've known... She didn't stop. She was addicted. Couldn't see straight. She pulled me onto the ground. I wrestled with her, but she still got me on my stomach. I tried getting away, but I felt the leather snap against the skin on my back. I yelped in pain. Why did I come back? I asked myself. I should've known she would've gotten stronger and more rough.
"You broad! Stop moving!" My mother spat. I flipped onto my back slowly and kneed her in the stomach. I scuttled to my feet and raced towards the door. She grabbed a cane and tripped me. I sat up and felt knuckles against my jaw. I huge CRACK echoed through the house. I felt thick blood trickle down my chin. I swelling pain throbbed in my jaw. I was shoved onto my back and immediate pains surged through my chest and face. I kicked my mother off of me again and sprinted out the door. I ran onto the sidewalk down the street, into the greaser territory, and on the Curtis house steps. I covered up my face with my sleeve and knocked on the door. It flung open as Soda stood in the door way. He must've spotted the blood on my shirt because he pulled me into a tight hug.
"What happened?!" He asked worriedly. I didn't reply. "Aw, Summer no... You didn't..." Sodapop whined. I felt hot tears stream down my face. I nodded softly and buried my head into his chest. I bawled... I had a painful head ache and my new bruises were burning like fire. Soda swept my feet from under me and picked me up. He laid me on the couch and I still covered my face. "Summer, can I see?" He asked. I shook my head. "Summer let me see..." He sighed. I shook my head. Soda pulled my arm away from my face and I turned my head. "Now come on..." He whined.
"If I looked in a mirror to see how bad this is it'd probably shatter..." I mumbled.
"Summer, please!" Soda begged.
"I'll be ugly... You'll break up with me..." I yelped.
"You're beautiful, no matter what! I love you," Soda sighed.
"Fine," I pouted. I uncovered my face and he gasped.
"Summer! Oh my God!"
I lowered my head. "I know, I know..." I sighed. Sodapop ran his fingers down my cheek unbelieved. I slightly winced. My whole face hurt... Two-bit walked into the room with a beer in his hand.
"Holy," Two gasped. I couldn't stand it... They looked at me like I was a martian. I rushed out of the door and sat on the steps. I rested my elbows on my knees and covered my face. Again I started to cry.
