Beep, Beep, Beep "Not again," I mumbled. I felt a cold hand rub my cheek.

"Sugar blossom?" A voice asked. I recognized it. "Are you ok?" My boyfriend asked again.

"I'm... I'm fine," I lied again. "I-I just got cut," I sighed.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Sodapop asked.

"You wouldn't have cared either way," I whispered opening my eyes. I stared into his deep brown eyes. "I don't wanna be here," I groaned.

"You'd die if you weren't," Soda explained. He planted a small kiss on my forehead before pulling away slightly. "And I don't want that," he mumbled with cracking in his voice. "I really don't," he said. Soda's eyes started to water. He, again, kissed my forehead. I heard the door open and I turned my head.

"Summer!" Ponyboy cried rushing over.

"Hey Pony," I chuckled hugging him.

"I'm sorry I didn't come with you! This wouldn't have happened!" Pony whined.

"It's not your fault," I whispered. I hugged him tightly and ran stroked his head, just like I did with Johnny. He was just as much as my kid brother as Soda's. I've known this family for years and I had always been there for them.

"Summer," a voice spoke. I looked up.

"Well, isn't it Darrel Shaynne Curtis Junior," I smirked.

"Don't call me by my full name, Ms. Cade," Darry said pointing at me. I rolled my eyes playfully.

"Whatever, It's not nice to point!" I giggled. Darry walked over and kneeled on the other side of me. Ponyboy and Soda took most of the space on my left.

"Are you ok?" He asked.

"I'm fine," I chuckled.

"I don't to lose you like I did my mom and dad. You're like a kid sister I've never had," Darry smiled.

"You're too cheesy!" I smirked.

"Whatever!" I laughed ruffling my hair. He stood up and sat in a chair. The room suddenly grew cold. I kicked the blanket off of me, so I wouldn't seem suspicious while cuddling with the blanket. I tried my best not to curl up into a ball or shiver.

"Scoot over," Soda said. I looked at him oddly. "Scoot over!" He insisted with a laugh. He pushed me over and laid next to me. I laid on my right side (the one without the wound). Sodapop grabbed the blanket and covered me up. He wrapped an arm around me and our legs intertwined. I smiled and I cuddled into Soda's chest. I ran my fingers through his hair. By then I slowly started to drift off.

"Aw, look at that guys! I wonder if they did anything!" A voice teased.

"Shut up, Two-bit! We're in a hospital!" Another voice scowled.

"I could still happen! Stevey," Two-bit laughed.

"Only Eve can call me that!" Steve snapped.

"Knock it off! Both of you!" An older voice snapped. "Not to mention, they're asleep, even Ponyboy! So, shut it," Darry said.

"Actually I'm awake. Thanks to Mr. Matthews! Oh yeah, I'm a virgin," I explained raising my hand.

"Well, at least Soda and Pony is out cold," Steve scoffed.

"Wonder why Soda is!" Two-bit laughed.

"Keith Matthews, don't make me beat you black and blue!" I scowled.

"You haven't yet, 'virgin'," Two-bit challenged.

"Do you really wanna try me? And, it's not like you've ever had a girlfriend!" I explained.

"Roasted," Steve laughed. "We know she's a keeper!"

"Oh shut it. You're dating my cousin!" I snorted.

"I... Uh..." He stuttered.

"Exactly, you can't deny it," I smirked. A nurse poked her head in the door.

"Summer, your dad is here," she spoke softly. My eyes narrowed and I scowled.

"What does he want?" I asked.

"To see you, of course!" She replied. I scoffed looking away. "I'll let him in," she said before leaving.

     "Isn't your dad-" Ponyboy started.

"Yes, he is Johnny's dad too. Very physical like my mom. Also my sister's father," I interrupted. My dad walked in the room and Darry stood up defensively (in a brother kind of way).

"My baby girl!" He said holding out his arms. I turned my head. "What's the problem?" My dad asked.

"Have you ever thought that my problem was you?!" I snapped.

"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed," he scowled.

"Someone is in the wrong place of the world! Go to Hell!" I yelled.

"Ooh!" Steve winced. "That's gotta hurt, buddy!"

"Look little twerp!" My dad scoffed pinning Steve to the wall.

     "Dad!" I snapped.

"You better stay away from my daughter! Or else things are gonna get bad! Did y'all hear that?" My dad said looking at the gang. I stood up tall.

"Father!" I yelped. He stared me directly in the eyes. I stood more bold.

"I'm still your boss!" He scoffed shoving me on to the bed.

"Back off!" I spat standing up. "I earned my scars for a reason! I fought my battles, unlike you! You get drunk because you're too much of a coward to say things to my face! That's why you ran off when Johnny died. COWARD!"

"Hey! Don't talk to me like that young lady!" My dad scolded pointing at me. Anger filled me so a I threw a left hook at my dad. He held his nose and looked at me. My dad stomped at me and pinned me on the hospital bed.

"Let me go!" I yelped kicking him.

"Summer!" The gang screamed as my head was slammed into the bedframe. My vision became blurry. All I could make out was that Sodapop and Steve tugged at my dad's arms. Eventually Darry rushed over and helped pull my dad off of me before I got hurt more. Before I saw anything else I blacked out. I knew from then it was going to be ugly.
