I woke up in a different room. The sound of beeping still had a steady beat. My body was sore... I looked around, the gang had come to visit.

"She's awake!" Two-bit shouted. Again he was wearing his Mickey Mouse shirt.

"Quiet your pants down, Two!" Darry scowled. "She probably has a huge headache from that concussion!" He explained.

"Co-concussion?" I asked as Soda rushed over to give me a hug.

Soda wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his chest tightly. "Are you okay? What happened? Did you get the present I gave you?" He threw questions at me like there was no tomorrow.

"Calm down!" I insisted, returning the hug.

"Sorry..." He mumbled. Soda released the hug and sat on the side of my bed. Dang, he was cute...

"And yes, I'm ok... And I love the teddy bear you gave me!" I smiled weakly.

"What happened?" Sodapop asked pushing a strand of my hair behind my ear.

"Nothing..." I said shaking my head.

"That ain't nothing, doll..." Steve said leaning against the wall. "Your eye is pretty rough... And how in the world did you get that concussion?" He asked.

I looked away from Steve, over to Darry, up to Sodapop. I glanced at Two-bit then at Ponyboy. "I-I... It... Um..." I struggled to find words. "My mom-" I started.

"That son of a-" Soda interrupted.

"Sodapop Curtis, please!" I scowled. "My mom slammed my head against the door..." I said. "She also punched me... A-and threatened me with a switch, up to my neck..." I explained.

Darry mumbled something and rubbed his head. He inhaled sharply with a rusty exhale.

"Man, I thought your and Johnny's mom just neglected you.." Two-bit said.

I perked up at Johnny's name. "We have different mothers..." I explained roughly. Everybody froze and looked at each other. I interrupted the awkward silence. "Soda, did you get that letter?" I asked.

He smiled, "Yes..." Sodapop's face turned red. "I uh... Never knew you wrote poems..." He chuckled.

"Yes, I do!" I giggled. I sighed, "I still remember that poem by heart..."

"The sunset's beauty is night's great gift,
The moonlight's reflection is the ocean's special myth,
The morning's first light is dawn's twisted rise,
The wind's whistling tune is the trees'  joyful song,
And the day I met you,
I learned not everything is black and blue,
That day, I learned that I could love too..." I spoke softly. The gang stared at me unbelievably.

"That's good, Summer!" Ponyboy smiled. "I dig poetry too!"

Darry looked at the clock. "I'm going to be late for work... I'll see ya later guys! Oh and nice poem, Summer!" He said rushing out the door. "Come on Ponyboy, you have school tomorrow!"

Ponyboy chased after Darry, "See ya Summer! Hope you get better soon!" He closed the door gently before leaving.

I nodded, "Thanks..." I rested my head on Sodapop's lap. I yawned weakly and sighed.

Two-bit sat down in a chair near the bed. "Tired?" He asked.

I nodded slowly and closed my good eye.

"Two, you have school tomorrow... And we have earlier shift tomorrow at the DX, Soda... We should leave," Steve explained.

"I'll be there in a second..." Soda said rubbing my cheek.

"K, Two-bit and I will be waiting for ya..." Steve sighed. Two-bit and Steve walked out the door without saying 'good-bye'.

I felt Sodapop's soft lips give me a light kiss on the forehead. He rubbed my cheek again and stood up. He trotted out the door a few seconds before I finally fell asleep.
