I sat down on the steps of the house and unwrapped the bandage off my stitches. I cursed under my breath and shook my head. The stitches were loose... I sighed and figured they were tight enough to forget about... I walked inside the house and went through a small bag I usually carry around, of course I stole it from a soc... I grabbed bandage wrap and rearranged my bandage. I put the wrap back and sat in the chair with a long sigh. "Why..." I huffed.
Ponyboy poked his head into the door. "Summer..." He said calmly.
I perked up and smiled. "Hi Pony!" I greeted.
Pony hesitated, I could tell something was bothering him.
"What's wrong?" I asked. I switched over to the couch and left a spot for Ponyboy. He slowly walked over and sat beside me. "It's awful early to be home!" I added.
"That's the thing..." He started. "I didn't GO to school, because I didn't want to turn this in..." He said handing me a notebook.
I looked at the notebook and grabbed it from his hands. I opened it up, every page was filled with neat cursive writing. I began to read what was inside. I finally stopped at the fifth page until I looked at Ponyboy. "Did you make this up, Ponyboy? It's really good!" I said.
"Well... I kinda lived it..." He replied.
I paused and looked at the notebook. I looked back at Ponyboy, "You have to turn this in!"
"I-I dunno..." Pony stuttered.
"Well, of course you do! It's amazing! I-It tells your story!" I said excitingly.
"I guess I will..." Ponyboy sighed.
"Don't guess... Do..." I said with a smile. "You know what, Monday I go back to school, so I'll turn it in for you..." I offered.
"Ok..." He said hesitantly.
"That's my boy!" I grinned giving him a nuggie. Pony slid out of my grip and smiled.
"Why don't you treat me differently like the the other socs do?" Ponyboy asked suddenly.
"Well, because you're not different... You may be poor and look different, you may have different interests and different personalities... But that doesn't make any of you greasers different... I am treated just as harshly as you and we both know it's not fair... We just don't let that stop us, right?" I explained simply.
He replied with a: "Sure...?"
"We need to have a talk about the 'Sure's and 'I guess's..." I chuckled. The door opened and I snapped my attention to it.
"Hey guys! Look what I brought!" Soda exclaimed waving two full paper bags in the air. Darry rushed in and sat in the chair. Soda hurried to the couch and set the bags on the table.
Darry rubbed his hands and leaned forward. "Mmmm... Mm!" Can't wait to get some of this!"
Sodapop opened the bag and grabbed a napkin. "Hey Pony! Chocolate with chocolate icing and sprinkles?" Soda asked.
"Of course!" Pony smirked snatching the donut out of Soda's hand.
"Darry, glazed with Kreme-filling?" Soda asked.
"Thank ya, little buddy!" Darry smiled grabbing his donut. He peeled the napkin back and took a chunk from it.
Soda held a donut out to me. "Apple crumb?" He asked.
