I know a few of you already know what's coming.
You click on a book thinking it's going to be a good love story. Cuz that's what you clicked on-ROMANCE. Nope. The dominant partner (the one in charge not in a bdsm sense) is a serious asshole to our lovely sub/main character. They kidnap them, beat them, maybe sexually assaults them. Then the next breath they are stroking them lovingly, professing their love and devotion, doting on them. Then they are beating our poor sub again, calling them names, hating them. And on and on.
And the main character is on this emotional rollercoaster the ENTIRE story and has a "love-hate-love" relationship that doesn't end in any happiness.
Stockholm syndrome ain't my thang. I wish people would label their stuff right. "abuse," "Stockholm syndrome," "bastard abusive narcissistic unloving s.o.b." There is nothing ROMANTIC about those types of stories and seeing them with the ROMANCE tag or under that category makes me wonder what is wrong with people's heads.
On top of that, why are the bxb/mxm/mxb stories rife with these types of stories? Male abuse is not cool. It happens, no doubt, but in every single story I click on males are being abused by their dominant partners. ( I don't speak of the ones with bdsm themes) They deserve to be loved and cherished too, dammit.
