(Same Shit Different Story)
How many authors have you followed after reading one of their stories? Then the next story comes around and it has the same sort of plot/characters/backstory. Then they write another story and it's the same as the previous.
For example, I was reading one story where this young female ends up falling for a domineering billionaire who treats her like crap. Blah, blah she gets used to it and accepts his ways, they are super in love, they live happily ever after. In the author's next book, there is a poor male who ends up with a domineering billionaire who treats him like a lowly servant (crap), he gets used to it, falls in love....you get it. Same plot different characters.
Our stories and writing style shouldn't be cut and paste. Each work should be its own masterpiece. Not living in the shadow of its predecessor so as to make the plot and characters predictable and uninteresting.
Now I'm not talking series or spinoffs. Those are sort of expected to be along the same lines.
We don't tend to read stories that are carbon copies of one another with minor differences so we shouldn't write them either.
