This is a plot device as old as time that just annoys me to my soul.
A sub meets their dominant partner for the first time. The mate bond instantly kicks in and they go into heat and *WHAM BAM SHAZAM* they're carried off and being pounded into the mattress.
Like, yo! Hold on, pahtnah!
In real life I'd like to at least know your full name, favorites, if you graduated high school or have a job. These dominant partners don't seem to give two shits about their partners. Just take the booty and keep it moving. No finesse. No real attraction other than chemical and animal induced. Boring.
I prefer to see the dominant learn their partner. Treat their partner like they are more than some sex object. Pay attention to their hopes, fears, dreams and interests. Take them on dates BEFORE fucking and marking them. Showing a real relationship that isn't all sex is what holds my interest in a story.
Yes, the mate bond is there. But it shouldn't dominate the relationship. It should help them find each other and help them move things along. Even in nature animals court one another. Sex does NOT happen the first day of meeting and there is tenderness and care shown by the dominant before, during, and after. The dominants in most stories are just plain selfish, sex crazed, assholes.
