Want to know what's worse than block writing? When there is no punctuation. Come on. Those of us that English is our native language we are taught punctuation beginning in second grade. We are taught what a sentence is and that a period goes at the end. In third grade we get fancy and learn there are different types of sentences and taught how to use exclamation marks, question marks, and commas.
Comma use is complex so I'm not complaining about that.
But dayum...we all know periods go at the end of a sentence. It shows a break or pause or that a statement has been made. It shows the end. A full stop of the sentence. When you type a story as one whole block with no punctuation whatsoever, it basically becomes one big ass run on sentence.
The reader has no idea who is talking, what they are talking about, what is happening in the story, what kind of feeling the characters have, where it is taking place, the reader can't form a reaction because they're confused as to what is happening, and since there are no breaks or pauses the pacing of the story is off.
