Namjoon watched with empathetic eyes as you sat in a conference room with an older man who was crying his eyes out. It didn't look like either of you were talking. You thought it better that you were the one to talk to him, you two had cross paths before. Apparently, his daughter had fun running in with the law.
Namjoon found his eyebrows raising when he saw your mouth start to move. He made his way to the wall, leaning against it so he could barely hear.
"Mr. Schulz, you called the Gangnam Police station at 11:30 last night, asking if your daughter was seen anywhere. Had she been missing all day?"
Mr. Schulz took in a very deep breath, shaking his head back and forth, not taking his eyes away from his hands. "Emilia went out with friends, all three agreeing to be back by 8:30 if not before. Emilia and I," He dropped his head in his hands. "We haven't been on the best of terms these past few weeks."
"I haven't known you and your daughter for as long as others, but I know that the two of you didn't always see eye to eye. You're going to have to be more specific. Not on the best terms was normal with the two of you."
Suddenly Mr. Schulz stopped crying completely. He lifted his head slowly to look at you, his eyes red. "What are you doing here, Y/N? How is it that you are even here, I thought you were..." He tilted his head. "On lockdown."
You subtly clenched your jaw. "We're not talking about me right now."
Mr. Schulz shook his head, dropping his eyes again. "I've been told what was found of her." His voice came out raspy. "Or I suppose, not found." You ran a tongue over the bottom of your lip, hating the feeling in your chest. "Who would do such a thing to an 18-year-old girl? I... I know she didn't get along with a lot of people, I mean she takes after me with that but... but this-"
"Mr. Schulz," Your voice was very gentle. "I am truly sorry for what happened, but you have to trust me. I will find whoever did this, I just need you to answer every question truthfully. I know you have a past with lying to the authorities for your own personal reasons, but you can't lie to me."
"Spying Detective?" Namjoon jumped out of his skin, turning to face a man in a loose suit. "That's not like you."
"Jesus, Jin you scared the shit out of me." Namjoon cursed at his fellow officer.
"Is that the girl everyone has been talking about?" Jin nodded towards the door Namjoon just recently had his ear pressed against. "Y/F/N?"
"Yeah," Namjoon took a few steps away. "The moment we got back here she called in that poor girl's father, and the two of them headed right in there, not even giving me a glance. She seemed nice at first, but now I don't know."
"I actually did some digging on her."
"Oh yeah?" Namjoon raised an eyebrow, very intrigued.
"British descent. At least her father is. Her mother was a German noblewoman, from a very wealthy family. Her parent's marriage was arranged, and her mother died just after she turned six."
"Christ, she must be practically royalty." Namjoon shook his head with wide eyes, looking back at you. "What the hell is she doing here? Is she even a detective?"
"Yes, from what I could find." Jin shrugged. "She cut ties with her father when she was 14, but he never really accepted that."
"That must be why she seems to know Schultz," Namjoon muttered half to himself. "By what I could hear, he knows her pretty well too. He said she was supposed to be on "lockdown"."
"Lockdown, huh?" Jin flashed a smile to his friend. "What do you think that means?"
"No idea." He sighed out. "And unfortunately I don't think I'll be finding out anytime soon." He quickly muttered as he saw the door slowly start to open.
You slipped out by yourself, closing the door softly behind you. Your eyes went directly to Namjoon, a look on your face that made him feel like you somehow knew he was listing in on your conversation.
"We still need to question him." Your voice was quiet. "But I think we should give him time to mourn. He did lose his daughter after all."
"How did you know who Emilia was the moment you laid eyes on her? Even if they are rich they are not famous."
"I'm sure you've noticed from listing in on our conversation," she tilted her head, getting Namjoon to choke. "But I'm British, the only reason I'm in South Korea is because an old friend called me down to look into something within the rich and the royal down here. There have been some fishy things happening and then this happens." You slowly shook your head. "Long story short, not good."
Namjoon shifted his stance. "I assume you are going to keep half of this hidden from me."
"Well depends, detective." You gave him a very small smile, one that was gone the moment it appeared. "How much do you know about a man named Lee Jae-Geun?"
Namjoon tilted his head at the familiar name. "Richest kid in Seoul. His family owns half the skyline."
"Get as much as you can on him," You said, walking past him, not before turning over your shoulder. "Because he's our first murder suspect."
