Ashen lifted her head as she heard the sounds of harsh paws against the cement ground. She hauled herself to her aching paws and looked around.

"Those darn Terrans think they can destroy us," growled a large black and brown canine. When he walked Ashen noticed that his shoulders made a strange clicking sound as if metal was rubbing together. She shivered, wondering if that would be her soon.

"If you ask me they're already doing a pretty well job," commented a smaller silvery fox with more electrical wiring running through his back than a TV.

Ashen wanted to whimper over to them to let her out but that would be weak. She swore under her breath and stretched out a paw through the bars of the cage. She clawed at the lock but she had no idea how to unlock it. She knew there was a small whole at the base of the lock and that something when in and you turned it. Her claw was too big and she couldn't bite through the metal.

She sat backwards and closed her eyes as a new wave of pain washed through her. She kept leaning backwards and growled. She prayed that this pain would cease but it showed no signs of it.

"Ashen!"

Ashen looked down and saw Somber limping forward. He seemed to be favoring all of his paws and his back. A black cat strode beside Lumber on a much easier stride. He had cybernetic implants all over his back and shoulders and even had a few poking from his spine. She was sure that it was painful but this cat looked determined not to show any weakness. His claws seemed double jointed or something like that. His tail curled in a strange position behind his legs and Ashen knew that his tail was probably also infused with whatever was in his back. His eyes were a pale yellow. His ears were erect and they looked soft but Ashen wasn't sure. She knew that this cat must have been through heck and she knew that she didn't want to turn out like him.

"Somber," Ashen barked as she pulled herself forward and smiled. "How did you get out?"

"I found a master of escape," Somber joked as he looked down to the black feline. "This is Grenade."

Grenade dipped his head in respect. Ashen saw the back of his shoulders and resisted the urge to vomit. Those cybernetic implants looked horrid and she couldn't believe that someone could do that to another creature. He looked up, his shoulders shifting back and although he didn't say anything he knew that he was uncomfortable. "It's a pleasure to meet you Ashen. I've heard a lot about you from your brother."

"All good things I hope," Ashen barked as she pawed at the bars of the cage. "Now could I have some help."

"Sure," purred Grenade as he bunched his muscles and Ashen saw the wires showed even more. He leaped so high that Ashen nearly gasped in shock. Could she maybe do that? He smiled at her through the bars of the cage and his teeth shown, making Ashen feel a bit uncomfortable.

"So how have you become so good at this," asked Ashen as she watched Grenade intently. Grenade extended a claw and stuck it in the lock's bottom. He twisted his paw and the lock came undone. The lock dropped on the ground and Grenade purred.

"Lots and lots of practice," he replied as he undid the latch of the cage easily with his muzzle. "Also it helps to have extra bones and joints in my paw." He showed Ashen and Ashen wasn't exactly sure what she was supposed to say. "Don't worry though, you'll probably be in the same boat soon enough."

"What do you mean, same boat," asked Ashen as she tilted her head a bit in confusion.

Grenade flicked his tail in a way that Ashen didn't think was possible and leaped back down from the crate. "You think that the injections were the end? They were just the beginning!"

Ashen figured as such but she never wanted to say anything and jinx herself. She pushed her head outside of the crate and saw Grenade bound toward Somber. Ashen groaned a bit, knowing that eventually she would have to jump. She summoned her courage and leaped down. She managed a small whimper as agony pulsed through her back, shoulders, and haunches.

"You get used to it," barked Somber as he limped to his sister and pressed his nose against her cheek affectionately. "How are you?"

"Iv'e been better," Ashen admitted before she licked Somber's chin. "How about you?"

Somber shrugged before he cringed. "I've been better also. These injections were the worst."

"Are you two coming," asked Grenade as he looked over his shoulder at the brother and sister pair.

"Coming where," asked Ashen as she narrowed her eyes a bit.

Grenade smiled. "We're heading to the main room where us 'experiments' hang out when those stupid Terrans aren't here! Trust me you'll make a lot of friends here." He stiffened a bit. "Just remember one thing."

"What's that," wondered Somber as he carried himself forward with Ashen following.

Grenade tapped his claws against the ground. "Don't mention your past life."
