The next day Grenade sat in his crate. He was grooming his fur with long strokes of his rough tongue. He wasn't trying to impress anyone since there was no one here he cared to impress. However he knew that it was still essential to keep up his grooming. The last thing he wanted were fleas or ticks.
He stopped his grooming when he heard the familiar presence. It was the same Terran who had tried to interrogate him the other day. He plastered his ears against his head and thought about hissing but didn't. He just padded toward the back of his cage and watched as the Terran wrote down his number and other information on a clipboard before the Terran ran it's fingers against the bars of the cage to alert Grenade that it was there. As if he didn't know. He wasn't stupid.
Grenade lifted his head so that it knew that he was listening. He looked at the Terran and his lip immediately curled in hatred. He couldn't help himself. It may have not been The Torturer but it was still keeping him here against his will.
"Hello ST4788," murmured the Terran and Grenade realized it was female.
Grenade twitched an ear and curled his lip. He hated being identified as a number. He had a name!
The Terran's eyebrow's furrowed when he didn't say anything. She jotted something down before she stuck the ben in the bars of the cage. "I know that you can talk. We all can."
Grenade looked to her, his eyes blazing. He knew that she knew. He was just holding out as long as he could.
"We can do this the easy was or the hard was ST4788," she sighed and they both knew what she meant. She meant the chambers that creatures went in and they never came out the same. Grenade didn't want to go in there. As much as he hated it he was going to have to start playing by her rules. "It's your choice."
Grenade curled his claws into his pads just before he broke this skin. The was antagonizing to listen to her speak.
"St4788 can you hear me," she asked, wondering if he had hearing problems.
Grenade opened his mouth and sighed heavily. "My name is Grenade," he flashed with his teeth bared.
She brightened and wrote it down quickly. "Grenade. That's an interesting name. What can you tell me about yourself?"
Grenade thought that he had told her enough and she would go away. He would have no such luck though.
"Favorite color? Food maybe? Any friends here," she pressed as she twirled in pen in her hairless paw.
Grenade shrugged. "Ashen, Somber, Whisper, Pallid, Dish." He spoke all of the names of his friends but since everyone here were numbers and very few of them actually had names he doubted she knew who any of them were. He didn't want them to be punished for what he said.
"Fascinating. So how are you feeling?" She was asking all these questions and Grenade hated that. He decided that he wasn't going to answer this one. She should know how he was feeling. So many things were put in his body that shouldn't have been that he wasn't sure how much of him was real and how much of him was artificial.
He turned his head away and curled his tail over his hindquarters. She sighed and stuck her hand in her pocket. She took out what seemed to be a long fine stick. She thrust it between the bars and stuck it into Grenade's haunch.
It gave a small shock and Grenade leaped to his paws, hissing in rage. He backed against the corner of his cage and extended his claws as he swiped at it. That just sent another electrical pulse from his paw up to his shoulder. He drew back even more but the stick just kept coming closer and jabbing him at all angels. He suddenly collapsed and felt his whole body jerking and twitching in agony.
"That is what happens when you don't listen," the female told him sternly before jotting more things down.
Grenade lifted his head and curled his lip. "Leave. Me. Alone."
The She-Terran straightened and took the stick out of his cage before he looked up and his body convulsed madly. He felt as if electricity was still pulsing through his body. He clenched his teeth and tried not to wail aloud. He groaned and turned his body over, wishing he would have just answered the stupid question.
"This can't go on for much longer," groaned Grenade as he propped himself out but his muscles fatigued and he fell harshly against the ground of his cage. "If they continue this we'll be dead before we know it."
