The sounds of gunshots woke Ashen. She darted to her paws, ready to fight. She thought she was back in her pack with Terrans swarming as they tried to kill everyone in sight. When she blinked her eyes a few times she realized she was still in the lab.
"Whisper," she growled as she squeezed her muzzle from the bars of her cage. "Whisper did you hear that?!"
"Who didn't," Whisper snapped as she lashed her tail and darted to the entrance of her crate. She narrowed her eyes. "It's too dark. I can't see."
"Well you didn't need to be able to see to hear that," chimed in Pallid as he looked up to the crate that Ashen was in.
"Exactly," barked Ashen as her fur bristled. She pressed her forehead against the bars and heard the barking of other canines.
"That was a gunshot thought," fretted Whisper as she threw her head from side to side in shock. "They never use guns. It's too quick of a death."
"Can you let me out," asked Ashen hopefully as she lashed her tail.
"No way," hissed Whisper in shock. If she would have been closed to Ashen she would have raked her claws against her muzzle for that stupid idea. "Do you have a death wish Ashen?"
"Of course not, "Ashen snapped, baring her teeth in the beginnings of a snarl. "What if one of us is injured?"
"They're not going to be injured," sighed Pallid as he turned and dragged himself to the back of the crate, not wanting to have the same fate. "They're going to be dead."
"Why would they use a gun when they could cause much more than a gun," Ashen pointed out. Terrans were more cruel than they were practical.
"It's not like we can do anything," reminded Whisper as she rolled her eyes. She turned in a few circles before she laid down and rested her nose under her paws. "Now go back to sleep."
"Go back to sleep," Ashen repeated in shock. "How am I supposed to do that?!"
"You do this thing call lay down and close your eyes," Whisper explained. "It's amazing what happens after that."
Ashen realized that she was wasting her time and breath with Whisper and Pallid. She couldn't get out without them since didn't have the capacity with her claws. She grumbled, half to herself and curled back up into a ball, taking Whisper's suggestion although she didn't want to. She reluctantly closed her eyes and drifted off.
