Ashen strode through the Social Circle the next night. She wanted to stretch her legs and since she could only do that at night. She walked through the deserted part of the Social Circle, thinking about what happened last night.
She suddenly felt something collide with her front leg. She looked down and saw a young black and brown pup with dark brown eyes. The pup looked up at her and bared his teeth before he realized that he couldn't take on Ashen. He plastered his pelt against his body and shook his head stubbornly. "Sorry," he growled but it wasn't sincere.
Ashen's eyes widened a bit. "It's alright. I wasn't watching where I was going either." The pup huffed a bit. "Are you lost?"
He shook his head quickly, a little too quickly for Ashen's liking. She looked behind the pup and realized that it was pitch black. He couldn't have gone from that direction since there was a wall. He had to have come from around which meant he was avoiding someone.
"Do you need any help," she asked gently as she lowered her head so that they were eye level.
The pup bared his small, needle sharp teeth and Ashen had to stop herself from snorting in amusement. "I don't need help. I never need help."
Ashen seemed a bit taken aback by his comment. "Everyone needs help sometimes," she pointed out.
She saw something flicker in his eyes. "Well I'll never need help, especially not from you," he muttered.
Ashen lifted her head so that she towered over the pup. The pup's ears plastered against his head and took a step back. "Very well then," she barked as she took a step to the side and waved her tail. "Go ahead."
He dipped his head but it was hardly in respect. He padded past Ashen and Ashen watched him go. She was tempted to ask his name but she didn't. This pup didn't want anything to do with her and she didn't blame him. He was probably taught not to trust many creatures here, just like she was told to do. She just shrugged and continued on her path.
She suddenly halted and sighed heavily. She couldn't just leave that pup to defend for himself. He didn't look like he had a mother or a father or anyone to take care of him for that matter. She couldn't just let him go where he'd probably be attacked and eaten by other creatures in there. She grumbled to herself for being so soft. She rationalized it by saying she wasn't soft, just that she knew what it was like to be without a mother in her life.
She turned and bunched her muscles. She thought about what she might say to the pup and hung her head, coming up empty. It wasn't like the pup wanted to talk to her in the first place so what could she say now that would change that. She thought back to when she was his age what she may have wanted an older wolf to say to her. She muttered into her chest fur since at his age she just wanted to be with her brother and father so anyone who said anything to her she would just brush off or ignore.
This pup was doing the opposite. He seemed to be trying to snap at anyone who said anything instead of ignoring them. He wanted to show he was strong which was just asking for trouble. If he picked a fight with the wrong company it could be deadly for him. She had to help him before trouble found him.
