"I can't feel my legs."

A sickening feeling rose up in Grenade. He swiveled his head to Somber and Whisper. "Carry him back to his crate," he ordered sternly.

"But-" Whisper began, on the verge of a sob but Grenade shot her a stern look that told her not to dare to argue.

She gulped and nodded as she yelped push Pallid on the back of Somber's back. Somber had to struggle not to yowl in agony as he felt Pallid pressing on the newly infused wires in his back. He swallowed his pain and padded forward, hoping to get Pallid to his cage as quickly as possible.

"What's wrong with him," whimpered Ashen as she looked down on Grenade. "Why can't he feel his legs?"

Grenade lashed his tail upward to cut her off. "We'll talk about this later," he hissed curtly as he padded forward, not wanting to argue with Ashen.

Ashen dropped the question and bolted after Grenade, struggling not to show the pain she was feeling. She continued to Pallid's crate and watched as Whisper helped Somber lower him down on his hard and cold cage. He groaned in pain, his eyes glazed over in agony.

"I can't feel my legs. I can't feel my legs."

He kept repeating it and Grenade turned. Ashen suddenly struck out a paw and grasped his foreleg. Grenade's eyes widened a bit in shock. "Where are you going," she muttered into her chest fur.

Grenade tugged his paw from her grasp. "I'm going to find someone who can help him."

"Help him," echoed Ashen in shock. She bared her teeth in the beginnings of a snarl. "Those darn Terrans put in those cybernetic implants wrong and now he's suffering. You heard him. He. Can't Feel. His. Legs."

"Don't you think I know that," snapped Grenade under his breath. "I'm going to do everything I can to help him but you need to let me be."

Ashen took a step back, knowing that she shouldn't argue with Grenade if he thought that he could help Pallid. She watched his pad off and she turned to Somber and Whisper who were trying to make Pallid comfortable.

She pushed herself through and saw that Pallid was laying on his stomach. She stole a glance at Pallid's haunches. His flesh looked burned and so did his fur. Parts of the implants were handing on and the wires looked frayed that Ashen could see. She didn't even want to see what the ones inside his flesh looked like.

"Do you know what's wrong," Ashen whispered to Somber.

Somber's eyes turned downcast as he looked to Pallid. "I don't know," he confessed darkly as his head hung. "He kept saying on the way here that he couldn't feel his hind legs."

"I'm so sorry Pallid," whimpered Whisper as she lowered her head in her shoulders and looked down on Pallid. "It was the fighting we did! I hurt you!"

Somber sighed heavily and pushed himself to his paws. He didn't think that his first time out of his crate in a while would be so painful. He padded up to Whisper and picked her up by the scruff. She hissed and raised a paw, scratching behind Somber's ear. Somber gasped a bit in pain and Ashen knew that she had to step in.

When Somber dropped Whisper Ashen leaped in front of her, pawing at the ground. "Whisper listen to me," she urged as she forced the grieving she-cat to look at her. "You didn't do this to Pallid. The Terrans did."

Whisper's eyes darted around madly. "I hurt him though. If we wouldn't have played then maybe they wouldn't have broke."

Somber looked to Ashen, willing her to say something. Ashen shifted a bit on her paws. "We don't know that and even if the playing aggravated it would have happened anyway, sometime."
