Ashen woke up and realized that something was over her muzzle, giving her fresh air. She took in a breath and didn't think she had had that pure of a breath in her lifetime. Her eyes flickered downward and realized that her shoulder was in a splint with a cast over it. She then looked to her haunch which was stitched up where the spear mark had been.

She turned her head slightly and saw the machine monitoring her body functions. On her other side Grenade lay in a different bed. He had the same contraption over his face but his eyes were still closed.

"You're awake!"

Ashen's heart skipped a beat as a tall Xanderian padded forward. Her wore a white lab coat and held a clipboard firming in his hands. He smiled down at Ashen and she pawed at the contraption on her face.

The Xandarian moved her paw away and anger surged through her. She went to raise her paw again but the Xandarian just frowned and moved the paw away again.

"You need the respiratory device on right now," explained the Xandarian before he turned to her machine and began jotting down numbers.

"Who are you," asked Ashen and she was surprised at how her voice sounded.

"I am Veterinarian Kwalis Orilus," introduced the Xandarian as he looked at her chart. "You have had a very exciting day, haven't you?"

Ashen shrugged with shot electrocuting pain through her shoulder. She bared her teeth and the Xandarian rested a hand on her neck to try and tried to ease her a bit. "Easy," he chided gently as he increased her IV drip a bit.

"What did you do to me," she asked a bit harshly.

Dr. Orilus sighed heavily. "Well when you lost consciousness they brought you in here for medical attention." He shifted a bit on his feet. "Your shoulder bones were shattered into so many pieces that I'm surprised you were walking on it."

"Did you fix it," inquired Ashen as she tilted her head a bit.

Dr. Orilus nodded. "Yes I did but it wasn't easy," he told her. "I went in and tried to set the bones but it was difficult. The bone shards were piercing your muscles. It should be alright in a few weeks but it will never be as good as it once was."

"That's okay," panted Ashen, tired of the respirator on her face.

"Your haunch wound could have gotten infected but we cleaned it out and stitched it. You should just rest and tomorrow if you can breath on your own you can be discharged."

Ashen turned her head and looked to Grenade. "If he alright," she asked hopefully since she hadn't seen him stir.

"He'll be alright. He had a few scars and wounds but he should be alright. We're just monitoring him," replied Dr. Orilus.

Ashen nodded to him and blinked her eyes a few times. "Is everyone else alright?"

Dr. Orilus nodded. "Yes they are being treated for minor wounds. I'll tell them that you and Grenade are alright and perhaps they'll come for a visit."

"Thank you," breathed Ashen as her body slumped a bit as fatigue rushed over her. "Thank you."

Dr. Orilus stretched a hand forward and rubbed the fur between her ears. "You're quite welcome guardian of the galaxy," teased Dr. Orilus lightly as he retracted and then walked over to Grenade and began to jot down his vitals.

Ashen yawned and turned her head on her pillow. She stretched out her good paw and tucked it into one of her pants pockets. She felt the smooth heart shaped river stone and smiled despite herself. She then closed her eyes and fell sound asleep.
