Dish wiggled his haunches before he darted forward. He reared on his hind legs before he leaped into the air, coming down on his underbelly. He rolled on his back and laughed loudly. His tail wagged as a large light brown and black she-dog prowled over to him. Her eyes were a dark chestnut with her ears hung against her head. Her muzzle was long while her body was lean but very muscular. Her paws were all large while her tail was feathered and very soft. He enjoyed chasing it, only when she let him though.

The she-dog bounded forward and nuzzled his chest fur playfully. Dish laughed and pawed at her muzzle before he hauled himself to his paws. She licked his cheek and he felt warmth spread through him from his tail to his toes.

"What are you doing Dish," she inquired in her usual gentle tone.

Dish shrugged before he reared on his hind legs and pressed them against her shoulder as he tried to push. "Playing," he answered as he continued grunting as he pushed.

She suddenly laid down and he rolled over her back and landed harshly on the other side. She rumbled in amusement before she picked him up by the scruff and shook him. He yelped in shock and when she set him down he stumbled a bit. "N-No fair," he stammered as the world spun before his eyes.

"Life isn't fair, my son," pointed out the beautiful she-dog. She helped him to his paws and he shook out the dirt from his pelt.

She suddenly froze as she heard the sound of feet against the ground, not paws. "Dish run," ordered the she-dog as her fur bristled along her spine.

Dish tilted his head in confusion. "Is this another game, momma," asked Dish as he lowered into a crouch.

Out of the corner of the she-dog's eyes she saw a Terran. It must be the last one locking up! All of the other creatures were in the Social Circle in the other room or in their crates. The only two creatures in the alleyway were the she-dog on her son.

"Dish you need to run," the she-dog barked sternly as she stood in front of her son and braced her muscles.

Dish sensed the seriousness in his mother's voice and his widened while his heart skipped a beat. "Momma?"

"Kill her," shouted the Terran as he surged forward, feet thundering against the ground.

The she-dog swiveled her head to look at her son, her eyes full of grief and loss. "Dish, run. Now!"

Dish gasped as he saw the Terran. He turned and darted as fast as he could.

"Keep running," called the mother over her shoulder. "Don't look back!"

Dish didn't need to be told twice. He surged forward, his breath caught in his throat. He had never run this fast in his life but his mother always taught him to fear Terrans. Also she was rarely serious so when she was he knew it was important. As much as he pained him he didn't slow or look over his shoulder like he wanted to. He darted behind a crate and felt his heart leaping in his throat.

Meanwhile the she-dog snarled at the Terran. Saliva dripped from her fangs. The Terran halted and drew out a gun. It should have struck fear in her but it didn't. She would do anything to protect her son.

The Terran took out something and shouted into it. "Subject CI890, Melody, has gotten out. I'm going to open fire."

Melody's ears pricked up as she heard 'open fire.' Her blood boiled and she darted forward. She went for the Terran's arm to take him down, just like she had been taught when she was a police dog. Before her teeth could connect the Terran pointed his gun and fired.

Melody crumpled to the ground. She heard numerous of the creatures in the crates bolt upward and make noises from barks to hisses to wails. She let out one more breath before her eyes rolled back in her head and her head stopped. Her body went limp and her tail gave one more twitch before it went still.
