Renée's P. O. V.

I woke up to the warm sun shining through Haleigh's window. I rolled over and grabbed my phone, seeing a ton of texts from my dad.  Him telling me to come home, cursing me out, threatening to come pick me up. I ignored them and put my phone down.

I got out of bed and threw a sweatshirt on over my tank top and shorts. Haleigh was still asleep, so I left her there. I went downstairs and into the kitchen.

Jenny was standing by the stove, flipping pancakes. Ben, Matthew, and Joey were sitting at the table with plates of pancakes.

"Good morning, sweetie," Jenny said with a sweet smile.

"Good morning."

"Is Haleigh still asleep?"

"Yeah, I didn't feel like waking her up." Jenny chuckled.

"Come help yourself," she said pointing at a plate full of hot pancakes.

I grabbed a plate of pancakes and bacon before going to sit next to Joey. We all ate in silence, except for Ben and Matt's laughter over some game on their phone.

"Renée, do you have everything you need for graduation?" Jenny asked.

"Yeah, I think so."

"You get paid enough at your job?"

"Yeah, and I have access to my dad's account."

"Oh, that's good."

"Yeah. Speaking of work, I have a shift in an hour so I better go get ready," I said. I stood up and took my plate to the sink and rinsed it off, putting it into the dishwasher.

I went back up to Haleigh's room and started to get ready for my shift. I'm a barista at a Starbucks nearby.

I took a shower and got out, changing into my uniform. I dried my hair, throwing it up into a ponytail. I brushed my teeth and did my makeup before putting on my shoes.

I came out of Haleigh's bathroom and saw her sitting up in her bed.

"You going to work?" She asked.

"Yeah, I'll be back at around five."

"Okay."

"Shit, my car's at my house," I realized.

"Ask Joey to take you to get it," Haleigh said, yawning.

"Okay. I'll see you later."

"Bye." She fell back on her bed.

I grabbed my bag and walked out of Haleigh's room, going to Joey's.

"Hey, can you take me to get my car?" I asked.

"Yeah, let me put a shirt on," he said. I nodded and walked downstairs.

After a few minutes he came down and we went out to his car parked on the curb.

"You going to Mason's party tonight?" He asked.

"No, I don't feel up to it. I was hoping you'd keep me company?"

"Of course." He smiled.

"We can just watch a movie or something."

"Yeah, sure."

He pulled up to my dad's house, so I thanked him and got out. I had my keys in my purse, so luckily I didn't have to go inside. Not that my dad would be awake, but still.
