"You ready to go?" Daniel asked.
"Yeah, just a minute!" I called from the bathroom. I finished my mascara before putting my make-up back into its bag. I grabbed the bag that I had put extra clothes and all that into.
I walked out into the living room and Zach and Daniel were both sitting on the couch in different outfits of red, white, and blue.
"You two look very festive," I joked.
"My family loves to go all out," Daniel said.
"I hope I'm wearing enough color then." I joked.
I was wearing a white shirt that tied into a knot at the bottom, jean shorts, and red vans. I had my white bikini on underneath.
"Here, use this somehow," he said handing me a flag bandana. I took it and put it on like a headband. I checked how it looked in the mirror in the living room.
"Does it look okay?" I asked. Zach smirked and winked, but Daniel didn't see.
"Yeah, you look great. Now let's go."
"Don't forget the drinks," I told them. They grabbed them from the fridge and they went out the front door while I climbed down the fire escape.
We got into an uber and drove to Daniel's parents house.
Daniel had invited Zach and I to his family's big fourth of July get together. I was kind of nervous. Zach had met his family multiple times, but I haven't. I was always nervous around parents.
"Hey, you okay?" Zach asked, noticing the worried look on my face. He put his hand on my knee and rubbed up and down. Luckily Daniel was in the front seat.
"Just nervous." I shrugged.
"Don't be. His parents are chill. His whole family is. They'll love you, I promise." He smiled.
"Thanks." I smiled, looking down at my hands in my lap.
The drive was about forty five minutes. We pulled up to a house on the lake. Daniel said his parents had a lake house and a house in the city. Must be nice.
We all got out of the car and walked into the house. Daniel led us to the kitchen where we set down all the drinks. Then we went outside.
"Daniel!" A man standing at the grill exclaimed when he noticed us. Daniel went and hugged him.
"How are you dad?"
"I'm great. Zach, how are you?" He asked, pulling Zach into a hug.
"I'm doing fine, sir. Thanks for inviting me again."
"Of course, of course. You're always welcome."
"This is Renée."
"I've heard a lot about you. It's great to meet you. I'm Jeff," he said coming and giving me a light hug.
"You too, and thanks for having me."
"Of course, sweetie. Daniel, your mom and Anna are down by the boat. Chris and Tyler went out to get fireworks."
"Okay." Daniel led us down a hill to a flatter area by the dock. Two girls were standing on the edge of the dock.
"Mom!" Daniel shouted. The darker haired woman turned her head and broke out into a huge smile.
"Daniel!" He went up and wrapped his arms around her tightly. Zach went and hugged the blonde, I'm guessing Daniel's sister. I stood there awkwardly.
