Renée's P. O. V.

I had just landed in the airport in Portland, Oregon. I found my way to baggage claim and took my bags.

Already I felt a lot happier. It was sunny, but not too hot. A lot different from Florida weather. There were tall mountains in every direction, and above the city there were forests. I couldn't wait to explore.

I walked outside and got a taxi to take me to the school.

"Where you headed?" The driver, a youngish man, asked.

"The ArtHouse? It's part of Pacific Northwest College of Art," I told him.

"Yes, I know the place." He started the meter and drove off.

I pulled out my phone and quickly texted Haleigh and Mason. I didn't text Joey though.

I wasn't sure how I felt about the kiss. I men, obviously it was an amazing kiss and I loved every second of it. But I didn't know what to do. I didn't start anything with him because I didn't want this to happen. I didn't want to go to Oregon with any connections to my past life, besides my friends. I just wanted to forget it all and start over. But I couldn't stop thinking about the kiss the whole flight.

I shook it off as Haleigh responded to my text. Of course, she brought up the kiss.

Haleigh
good we can talk about
that kiss!!

Renée
what kiss?

Mason
come onnn

Haleigh
so are y'all gonna like
be long distance?

Renée
it was just a kiss
it didn't mean anything to me
just a way to say goodbye

Mason
mhm surree

Haleigh
better tell that to joey
he hasn't stopped smiling
since you left

Renée
this is why I didn't start
anything with him.
I didn't want feelings to get hurt
and I didn't want a relationship

Haleigh
so you didn't wanna kiss him?

Renée
I mean it was a great kiss
just bad timing

Mason
ya, we understand

Renée
I gotta go get checked in
talk to y'all later

Haleigh
byeee

Mason
laterrr

I put my phone in my pocket and gave the driver my card.

"Thank you," I said getting out of the car. I went to the trunk and pulled out my two suitcases.

I walked in the glass doors and up to the front desk.

"How may I help you?" The lady asked.

"Hi, I'm here to check in. My name's Renée Page." She started typing on her computer.

"Um, I'm sorry. You can't check in until August 5th."

"Wait, what?" I asked.

"Did you pay for the summer studio?"
