TWO MONTHS LATER

Eliana and I are friends now, but obviously, we are not as close as we used to be, which is why it's kind of strange that she is here before me bandaging me up.

"You really don't have to do this," I said, wincing when she put pressure on my wound.

She scoffed, looking at me in her know-it-all way that basically said, "Yeah right."

"What are you even doing here?" I asked. I didn't realize how harsh it sounded until it came out of my mouth, and I immediately recoiled when I see her face drop. Hurt definitely flashed over her features. I slowly raised my hand up and placed it gently on her hand, the one that's working on me, in a way that's like asking for permission—asking if I should touch her. She was still a bit jumpy when it comes to that. "I'm grateful that you're here taking care of my clumsy self, but I didn't expect you to be here. Also, you are the person that's picking at my cut," I pointed out, wincing again.

Her dabs became gentler now. "I'm supposed to hang out with Austin, but he's late." She rubbed her finger over my wound when she's done cleaning it. "What even happened? How did you do this to yourself?"

I blushed, hiding from her curious glance. I stayed quiet until she poked me—multiple times—and I caved. "Iwalkedintoawallandapictureframefellonme," I said all in one breath.

She was quiet for a moment, probably processing everything I said, then she broke out into a series of laughter. Her face was bright and red, and she coughed, trying to play it off like she wasn't laughing at me. It'd be cute if I wasn't too embarrassed.

"Thanks for laughing at me." She covered her mouth with her hand to stop her laughing. "I don't think our new-found friendship is going to work if you keep laughing."

"Shut it," she said with a playful tone. "I'm trying. Okay," she breathed. "I don't remember you being so clumsy."

"What time was Austin supposed to meet you?" I asked instead.

"5:00," she answered.

"What time is it now?"

"5:45." I nod, but then sat straight up when I realized what that meant. I made a move to jump off the counter, but Eliana stopped me with her hand on my chest. "Hey, what are you doing?" She questioned. "I'm not done. I have to put the band-aid on you."

I pursed my lips. "I have a date."

She looked at me, shocked like she couldn't believe it. She blinked, once, then twice, then maybe a couple more times. "That's great," she beamed, and she really meant it. "But you still have to sit still. I still have to put the band-aid on you," she said strictly. "Anyway, I don't think you should go on a date or anywhere for that. At least not for today. You have a head injury. I don't want you to pass out on me or anything."
