Thunder cracked as the rain slashed against the windows with a vengeance. It had been stormy all day, and it didn't seem like it would ease up soon.

You sat alone in the room you shared with Jasper. He'd gone out hunting with the rest of the Cullens, leaving you unattended with your thoughts. The only other person at home was Renesmee; sleeping in her parent's cottage off the main grounds. How on Earth were you going to tell him that every time you looked at Edward and Bella's daughter, you craved to have your own?

Those desires had all but overrun your mind. Whenever you watched Edward give Renesmee a piano lesson, or when Bella put her to sleep with a bedtime story, you wanted it; and it hurt to know it would never happen for you and Jasper unless you said something.

But with this, your courage was fickle. It came and went with each beat of a butterfly's wing. You had rehearsed it in your head so many times. Yet, despite it Edward and Alice, who you'd sworn to secrecy, could offer no comfort. There were no visions. Jasper had never thought about it.

You had not imagined how much you could want something; what the limitations were. You longed for a child with Jasper more than anything and you weren't getting changed into a vampire until after at least asking. And when Jasper asked you how you felt about being changed, you realised you were running out of time.

Even when you looked at Rosalie, so entranced by Renesmee, and at Esme, who also looked at the girl with a glint in her eye... You feared you'd regret being childless; and until it happened to Bella and Edward you didn't know it was even a possibility.

So despite the raging storm outside, you sat in your bedroom with a hot drink and gazed at the steam twirling away from the mug in your hands. You didn't bother rehearsing it; you wanted Jasper to see how genuine you were. So, you took a sip from your drink and waited.

Jasper's icy lips smashed against yours as you lay next to him on the bed, water droplets from his hair dripping onto your face. He was back early. He rushed his hunt because he didn't like being apart from you. You wondered if he'd grow more attached if you were pregnant. Jasper stiffened, his muscles tensed but his fingers remained light and gentle against your skin.

"What's wrong, (Y/N)?" He asked you, his topaz eyes hardened. You took a shaky breath. "I can sense you're nervous and afraid. Am I doing something wrong?"

"No, no," You were quick to reassure him. "I..."

Your tongue betrayed you. It felt like it refused to move when you tried to tell him the truth out loud. He looked at you expectantly.

You tried again, "I want to... talk about something." Jasper didn't speak, and only nodded his head. You took another unsteady breath.

"I'm getting worried, (Y/N)."

"It's nothing bad," Your throat tightened, "I want to run an idea by you."

"I'm listening."

"All right... so," You were fidgeting with the hem of your shirt, "I... there's this thing, something I think we could both love." His face was unreadable. Jasper offered no clues as to what he thought you were talking about. You cleared your throat. Your palms were sweating. "A baby."
