"What?!" Kofi and I shouted at the same time.

My mouth dropped open, then closed again as I glared at the evil man sitting beside me. Vince had just announced to Kofi Kingston and I that we would be in a mixed gender tag against Jack Swagger and Layla.

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me."

"Couldn't you find a better partner for me?" Kofi asked, a scowl on his face.

"Excuse you? Why don't you go-" I was about to deliver a sharp retort when Vince cleared his throat loudly.

"That's all for now. Just try and get along and then you can go your separate ways. Dismissed."

Kofi and I stood up at the same time, still glaring at each other. I pushed past him and out the door. Just as I was out of the door and walking away I felt a hand grab my wrist. I stopped and, without turning around, spoke coldly to him.

"If you want to keep that hand, I suggest you take it off of me."

"Look, I'm not happy about it either. But when we get out there we have to act like we don't want to kill each other okay? Trust me, no one is more excited than me that after this match I'll never have to speak to you again."

"Fine."

And with that I shook his hand off and continued walking.

. . .

The next week it was time for Monday Night Raw. It was about an hour before our match so I headed to Kofi's dressing room. He was standing outside of it talking to Cesaro.

"Kofi." I said bitterly.

"What do you want?"

"Our match is coming up. Get ready."

Cesaro looked between us wordlessly, his eyes darting from Kofi to me. Kofi held my stare for a heartbeat then sighed in annoyance.

"Fine."

"You two are on the same team?" Cesaro finally spoke.

"Unfortunately." I said strolling away.

"Did something happen between you?"

I didn't hear Kofi respond as I continued to walk farther away. The truth is everything had happened.

Two years ago he and I had actually dated. It was the first time I had ever fallen in love with someone. He had always told me I was his first love too. Then, he started acting strange towards me. He turned cold, as if he was angry with me and never told me why. Enter Layla into the picture. That psychopath is never happy unless everyone around her is miserable. After a week of him acting weird I happened to be on my way to his dressing room when I saw he and her kissing. He cheated on me. I should have guessed. And thus, the bitter hatred between Kofi and I began. And the rivalry between Layla and I. I figured after she got her way she would back off. And she did for a while. But recently her and Jack hit it off. And she just loved to rub it in my face. And she reached a new low by going so far as to go to Vince himself to request this match. She must have him wrapped around her little finger tightly if he agreed to it that quickly. I let my emotions boil my blood, pumping me up for my match.

The bell rang and Kofi and Jack locked up. Jack tossed Kofi aside and went to work on Kofi's leg. He pulled it out and slammed it down on the mat several times. I watched on indifferently. I just wanted my hands on Layla. They continued battling for several minutes, countering each other and exchanging blows. Jack started to push Kofi into my corner. This was my chance, I tagged myself in. Jack backed off and when Kofi realized I tagged myself in he straightened up and gave me an icy stare. I held my ground and returned it defiantly. Layla took my distraction as an opportunity and grabbed me from behind and threw me down. I saw her setting up for a knee-drop and rolled out of the way just in time. She rolled onto her back, holding her knee and I pounced on top of her.
