22. Really really

"You are auditioning for Carrie aren't you?" Kevin harasses me as I walk down the hall
"What?"
"Carrie the musical, a classical directed by me. And you my dear friend have to join our crew" a broad persuasive smile plays around Kevins lips.
"Oh Kev that is so sweet of you. But I... can't eh sing"
"Lie. I heard you sing and you have the voice of an angel. Even fangs is auditioning."
"What?" I start laughing but then I decide to tell the truth "i don't want to lie to you, look it's my first week back in school and I want to start slow again" i give him a tired smile hoping he'll understand.

"Alright, but one day" he raises his finger
"Sir, yes sir" I reply laughing.

Another reason why I denied to audition is because I not only hate being in the spotlight but there are some tensions in the group. Because Ronnie lied about conspiring with her parents against the school and everything. I just don't want to get into this so I thought a little space would be just fine. And Cheryl is eager to show everybody that she is fit to play and sing carries role. Maybe a bit too enthusiastic, what she'll see later.

"Omg Cheryl are you alright after your brush with death this morning?" I ask concerned
Cheryl who is sitting next to me on the sofa lays her legs on my lap "I'm not gonna be recastet" ignoring my question
"Cheryl, you sure are the perfect Carrie but after the letter I found in my locker" Kevin pulls it out again "I can't be responsible If you get hurt"
"It may not be the real black hood but it is a legitimate thread" Jughead points out and I agree
"Cheryl I don't want you to get hurt" I stroke her legs

"I will not succumb to thespian terrorism and allow myself to be ousted from this production." Her upset voice echoes through the room as she sits up "after the fires I've walked through, Kevin, the world needs to see me up on that stage, a dark Phoenix reborn in the spotlight"

"Well, they'll have to wait, cheryl" Mrs. blossom appears in the room
"Mother" Cheryl doesn't look her in the eyes
"Even in a town as twisted as Riverdale, students require parental approval to partake in extracurricular activities" she glances in my direction. Another reason I won't be in the musical.
"As I reminded Principal Weatherbee when I told him you didn't have my approval to do the musical, and never will" Cheryls eyes start watering up at the words of her mother
"So what, you just feast on broken dreams now, is that it?" She starts to speak faster and louder
"Playing a murderous telekinetic teen who kills her mother? Please" Penelope spats "this matricial revenge fantasy, never gonna happen" she smiles.

Kevin and I share a look and want to escape but Cheryl keeps me down
"That's final" her mother whispers and steps away while Cheryl wipes her tears away.

Guess Kevin now has to replace her, with her understudy Midge Klump.

"I'm so excited. You're gonna love it. Even better than the original" Kevin swarms around me
"I bet so although I've never seen it"
Kevin looks at me in disbelief "well then tonight is the night. It's gonna be a night you'll never forget"

It's time for the premiere and sweet pea and I head down to the school.
We are already a bit late and everyone is on their seats. The hall is packed and we find seats in the back. Im not too sad about it because sweet pea and I are a little more private.
He lays his arm around me and the curtain opens. The first scene begins.

It's pretty good actually, most of my best friends on a stage singing and dancing.

Alice Cooper Is on stage singing
"Father almighty
She's only a child
But the women is waking inside her
She will be lost if her passion runs wild"

"Wow I never new bettys mom could sing" i murmur to sweet pea
He looks at me, eyes widened "that's Mrs. Cooper?"
I reply with a small giggle

"All right, Carietta, it's time to come out of your closet" Alice says and the wall behind her is pulled up.

Screams narrow through the hall and I would like to scream, my mouth opens but there's nothing coming out. I stare at the stage in a horrified manner.

Midge pinned to the wall with knives, her arms spread and blood all over her body.

I am back from the dead.

Most of the spectators start to realise that this is not part of the show and panic breaks out.
Alice still on the stage turns around to see midges dead body and screams. It's a terrifying scenario and sweet pea must have noticed that I'm in shock. He pulls my head on his chest so that I couldn't see anymore.

He stands up still covering my eyes and walks me outside. I can hear Cheryls scream and now the whole audience is screaming and shouting but we just quickly walk to his bike and drive off.

I'm still shook, my breathing uneven and my eyes widened. All those flashbacks of the day my parents were murdered.

Arriving at sunny side trailer park we get of his bike and sweet pea cups my cheeks "are you alright?" He asks with a strong tone.

I-i don't know but I still manage to nod.  This whole night I couldn't close my eyes without seeing midge hanging on the wall covered in her own blood. I snuggle closer to sweet pea shutting my eyes hard and hiding at his chest.
