59. Bloody Prom Night

I'm squeezing into my dress.

"Its amazing where Ronnie always finds those. Amazon must have a whole bunch of Prime eligible Ren Faire costume options"
That, or everyone at Riverdale High is so far down the G&G path that they had these in their closets already I think.

"I hate dressing up. I look ridiculous"
Sweet pea steps out and I cant help but chuckle a bit. He looks nothing like sweet pea the serpent I know

Betty has outdone herself once again. The gym never looked that... well medieval. It's decorated beautifully and fiddle music plays from the boxes.

The evening runs pretty smooth. Just your normal prom. I dance with my boyfriend and laugh with my friends.

"Its so unfair. I would have won for sure. TT and I could've been prom queens" cheryl complains
"Yes, cheryl. But you know it's against our moral standards. We are all the same" Evelyn explains as I approach the farm group.

We greet each other
"Julia, you look great. Care for a walk? I wanted to talk to you about something" evelyn links our arms and drags me away.

"You've been part of the farm for some time now and I wonder if sweet pea would be interested in joining us as well" she smiles at me
"Oh...I-I don't think so. He is not a big fan of the farm and thinks of it more as a cult. So I dont think so"
"Why? Has it not been going well between you two in the last time?"
"No. I don't know. He's been acting weird lately wit the serpents and then there was this... thing" I start mumbling. I didn't want to tell anyone about the fizzle rocks incident.

"What incident?" Her eyebrows move together
"I found a small package of fizzle rocks in his pocket but he explained and it's fine now" I try to put it off
"Fizzle rocks? The drug?" Evelyn's big blue eyes widen "what was his explanation?"
"He found it and... put it in his pocket"

The expression on her face makes me realise how thin this explanation is. I guess I just wanted to believe him whether it made sense or not
"And you believed him? I'm sorry julia but doesn't sound really convincing to me"

"You think he lied to me?"
"I think he might be dealing drugs, Julia. Or even taking them" shaking her head
"What-what should I do?"
"I dont think you want to hear that but... you should end it with him. As a leader of the farm I've seen alot of those scenarios and it's the best to leave the toxic things behind"
"I cant break up with him" my head hurts and my vision blurs through the veil of my tears.

"We can do it for you. It's easy. You just have to go away from him. You could live with the farm, we bought the sisters of quiet mercy and tu-"
Her words fade away in the background. She's right. I should go away. He lied to me about something illegal. I can go away.

"Thank you, evelyn" I give her a quick hug although she hasn't even stopped talking, and run outside.

"What? What are you talking about? That's bullshit she wouldnt do that" sweet pea looks around but cant find anything where he could unload his anger
"Accept it sweet pea" Kevin says "after what you've done"
"Its the best for her. After her past she needs to think about what's the best for herself" evelyn explains with her calm voice which just stokes up his rage like gasoline in fire.

"Betty? What is going on?" I knock against the door.
She is leaning against the wall of a broom closet and startled at my knock.
Quickly she opens the door, pulls me inside and closes it again.
It's just now that I notice her crying.
"Shh, we need to be quiet"
"What happened betty? You look devastated"
The look of horror drawn over her face.

"The gargoyle king..." trying to catch her breath "and black hood... they want to kill me" whimpering

I dont know why I get angry but she must have gone out of her mind.
"They are dead betty, what are you talking about? Have you gone crazy? God, I need to leave this forsaken town" I storm out of the closet. I know what I have to do now.
