Y/n's POV

I sit in the doctors office, very nervous. Ethan is in the waiting room obviously waiting for me to come out.
Doctor Jay ran a few tests on me to make sure everything was alright, especially with my eyes.
He's been out the room for around twenty minutes now, concerning me.
Suddenly the door opens and two sets of footsteps come in the room.
"Miss. L/n," He says as he comes closer. "Everything seems to be perfectly fine with you."
I sigh with relief.
"So perfect in fact that we have a proposal for you." He adds.
"Huh? A proposal?" I ask.
"Yes. Doctor here will tell you more about it." He says.
I then hear his heavy footsteps head toward the door, exiting the room.

"Good afternoom Miss. L/n." A woman's voice says.
"Good afternoon." I reciprocate.
"How has evrrything been; eyes wise."
I shift on the table.
"Fine. I my ability to still see things thay are in front of a light source hasn't left yet." I tell her.
"Good, good." She says.
"Now I'm going to shine a light in your eyes real quick and then I'll inform you about Doctor Jay's proposal."
The Doctor puts here gentle hands on my face and opens my right eye widely, shinning a bright light in it.
She then moves on to my left eye and does the same.
"Everything seems fine." She says with a sad sigh at the end.

"Now the proposal."
I scoot closer to hear her better.
"A select few blind patients are going to be asked this exact question.
Some researchers have been trying to find a way to cure blindness for years and have failed every time."
I nod for her to keep going.
"A team of very smart people have found what they think might be the cure. They are selecting a few blind people who have no history of losing their eyesight to probelms of the brain. You fall under this category and Dr. Jay wants to know if you'd like to try this experiment."
My eyes widen at what she proposing.
"There would be a chance I'd be able to see again?" I ask.
"Yes." She says.
I think back to Mark's birthday being the day he gets back from PAX.
It's a bit selfish, but maybe I could give him the gift of me being able to see him for his birthday.
Of course I'd give him a real gift too, but this would be amazing.
I nod my head as fast as possible.
"I dont think you should do it, but I will tell you what they'll do."
I raise mt eyebrow.
"Why shouldn't I?" I question Doctor.
"It could lead to messing up your eyes even more and may cause an infection. You could also regret your decision later." She tells me.
"It's worth the risk."
"Alright then." She sighs once more.
"So to do it you'll be knocked unconcious. They'll then take out your eyes and replace them with new eyes that have been sitting in special chemicals to make them compatable.
They'll then take out your eye stems and replace them with new ones.
Finally they'll put the new eyes in."
She breifly explains the procedure.
"How long will it take until I can see?" I ask.
"About a day and a half if you soak the bandages every hour with this liquid you'll be given." She says.
I simply nod my head as I take in all the information.
"What will happen to my...old eyes?"
"They'll be disposed of." She tells me.
"What if I wanted to keep them?"
Silence.
"That's a bit odd, but they'll want to study them. Maybe they'll keep the stems and let you keep your eyes if you want." She says.
"Okay....I-..I accept."
I assume she nods her head.
"Dr. Jay will be back in with the papers in a few moments."
Doctor starts to walk toward the door.
"Just know that having sight doesn't make the world a better place."
The door closes and she's gone.

What does that even mean?

The door opens again and two sets of footsteps enter once again.
"Here are you papers to sign." The doctor say, his deep voice making me jump with surprise.
"What are the papers for?" A fimiliar voice, Ethan, asks.
"I'll tell you when we leave." I say, letting the doctor lead my hand to where i need to sign.
"Come back later today and we'll do the procedure." He tells me.
"What time?" I ask, hopping off the table.
"An hour from now; four o'clock."
I take my cane out my backpack and hum to show my listening.
"Sounds good."

"So what were the papers for?" Ethan asks me. "You also seem super giddy."
I smile at him widely and slightly giggle.
"I might be able to see again Ethan." I tell the blue haired boy.
"I'll be able to see you, Mark, Kadence, the sky, the grass! The list goes on and on!" I shout.
"Wait, what?" He sounds confused.
"They're going to test an experiment on me that could give me my eye sight back. It should be bacm when Mark gets back tomorrow night!" I say.
"Woah, woah, woah. Calm down. Experiment? That sounds dangerous."
I roll my eyes and shove him.
"Oh shut up Ethan! Lets just go get something to eat so we can plan Mark's surprise party." I say.
"Alright," Ethan gives in. "After, if we have enough time, we'll also go pick up the presents we got him."

Mark's birthday is going to be perfect!
