Mark's POV

It doesn't take long for the water to return and place our plates onto the table. I lightly smile and thank him before he walks away; leaving Y/n and I alone once again.
"So," I start.
She immediately looks up from her plate and stares straight into my eyes. It's weird to think about the fact that even though she's staring directly at me, she can't actually see me.
"You mentioned not too long ago about always being in a hospital."
Her eyes widen for a split second only to return to their natural size.
"I did." She responds.
"Why?" I question her, trying not to sound too pushy.
"Well uh…-"
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I'll understand completely of you don't."
She shakes her head with contempt.
"You already know I'm blind, so why not."
With a small smile on my face, I lean back in my chair and wait for her to begin her explanation.
"I went blind when I was two,"
She starts.
"I had been going blind since I was born and they I could no longer fully see a few months after my second birthday.
They.....weren't so fond of the fact that I couldn't see, so they signed me up for every type of experiment they could find.
I spent most of my childhood in different hospitals and labs.
People would test different shots and pills on me to see if they would work. Obviously none of them ever did." She paused for a moment as a frown formed into her once soft and calm features.
Reaching across the table, I clasp my hand over hers. She slightly jumps before realizing its just me.
"They were just so hellbent on me getting my sight back that they didn't care if I ever left a hospital. That meant no toys, no TV, no friends." I caress the back of her hand with my thumb.
"My dad was a bit sympathetic, but he kept pushing that I needed to get better."
I nod even though she can't see me.
"It's almost like my mom could never love me if I didn't get better. But what I think they don't get is the fact that it's not a disease. Yes, a disease cause this, but it's not something that can just go away like the flu."
I feel a bit of anger inside myself.

How could parents do that to their kid? That just...isn't right.

"I have a few brothers and sisters. They sometimes tried to get my parents to let me come home. They always said that I needed to stay wherever I was to get better." Her eyes glaze over as if she's going to start tearing up.
"That's why I moved away from there. I runaway when I was sixteen. I know, how can a blind girl run away." I chuckle.
"I had one friend from one of the hospitals who had cancer. She ended up getting cured. She would sneak into whatever hospital I was in every night to visit me. Her family took me in and I lived there up until I came to college here."
I let go of her hand and pull mime back toward myself.
"She sounds amazing." I say.
Y/n smiles to herself as she stares down at her plate.
"She really was."
We both begin to eat our food.
"How come you left her?" I ask.
"I didn't."
I send her a questioning glance.
"This was the only college I had applied to and she didn't get accepted here. So we parted ways. I know we'll meet again some day."
I nod, shoving some more food into my mouth.
"How about I tell you about me now." I say.
She smiles and nods her head really fast.
"Well first, I'm not an online marketer."
Y/n looks very confused.
"I'm a YouTuber, like Ethan."
She only looks even more confused.
"We make videos on the internet for people to watch and enjoy."
She nods in understanding, still looking a bit confused.
"Ethan never told me he was a YouTuber." She mumbles to herself as she shoves a fork full of f/m in her mouth.
"We'll my parents divorced when I was really young. They just weren't the ones for each other I guess." I tell her with a shrug.
"My dad ended up getting cancer and dying when I was around eighteen or twenty."
Her face softens and she looks like she wants to cry.
"Then when I was around twenty-two I had found out I had a large tumor on one of my adrenal glands. I was put into surgery immediately. The day after my surgery was probably the most pain I had ever felt in my entire life. The hospital had screwed up my prescription and they hasn't given me any pain medication."
This time Y/n takes my hand in hers, shooting me a sympathetic smile.
"I called in nurses all day, but none of them believed that I was in excruciating pain. The doctor came in too at one point and poked at my stitches. Still they didn't give me anything. They thought I was some druggie trying to get extra pain medication. I wish that was the case." I squeeze her hand.
"When night came I was in so much pain that I had started crying and pleading to a nurse. I told her that I didn't want to die; that's how bad it was. She had teared up and felt super bad for me. They still didn't know that I hadn't been getting what I was suppose to though."
My gaze travels to a family sitting on the other side of the restaurant.
"When a different doctors shift started at around six or seven in the morning, he checked my prescription. He saw that they messed up and they immediately started giving me some of the strongest pain medication they had." Y/n slightly chuckles.
"I know it sounds cheesy, but after that happened I realized that I needed to do nothing with my life. So I started YouTube. Now I make millions of people happy everyday and that makes me happy too." I smile as I think of all the stories I've been told by fans at meet and greets.
Some say I saved their lives, others say they've found their significant other because they had both watched me. It's such an amazing feeling.
"I'm glad you feel comfortable enough to share that with me."
She says.
I shake my head.
"No, I'm glad that you shared what you did with me. I've told people my story before. I'm sure you don't really talk about what has happened to you."
She nods.
"You're right," She says with a smile. "but you; you're special Mark."
