Chapter 25: Last Stand

-Kole's POV-

We got the information we needed from those thug adventurers and was now heading towards their base.

When we got close to it, what we witnessed was something that can only be described as a massacre. There were dead adventurers all over the place.

All of us couldn't believe our eyes. It was horrifying.

"Who could have done this?" Jessica muttered.

"Take a guess," I clenched my fist knowing who the culprit was.

It was that hooded guy. There was no other explanation except him.

He told us before that he was going after Thomas, but I didn't think he would go this far. This guy was a maniac.

"Who would've thought that he would cause this much damage," David looked around the base in both surprise and fear.

"I'm betting the inside is just as messy. Maybe more," Jack added.

"Regardless, we need to hurry up. Maybe then we'll be able to save at least some of the adventurers here."

Without wasting any more time, we proceeded to the base. Unfortunately, we ran into an adventurer.

He was a lot older than us and had a scar on his face. He also had brownish green hair and wore sturdy armor unlike the other adventurers here.

Wait, that's Thomas Gate! He matches the description that was shown on the quest.

So, this was the leader, huh.

When he saw us, he stopped and glared.

"Who the hell are you brats? I got no time to deal with you."

Wow, he doesn't seem that fazed about all of his members were lying dead on the ground. I guess in the end, he only cares for himself.

"Are you Thomas Gate?" I asked in a cold tone.

"What do you think, kid? Of course, I'm him! Now get out of my way!" Thomas tried to get past us, but we blocked his path.

"Sorry, Thomas, but we have to turn you in to the Guild."

"Huh? Wait a minute," He eyed us. "You're those adventurers that took out my men! So, it's true, you are after me!"

He catches on quick.

"Just come with us, Thomas. It's time you answered for your crimes."

"Ha! Like you brats can stop me! Unlike my useless members, I'm far stronger than them."

Thomas then tossed a few daggers at us. We dodged them, but that was just a trick so he could run away.

"Chloe, don't let him escape!" I told her.

"On it! [Earth Wall]" Chloe then chanted, and a giant dirt wall erected from the ground.

It was in Thomas's way, so he had to stop, which gave us the chance to take him out.

David and Jessica rushed at him to take him down. Thomas foresaw this and used the dirt wall to propel himself backward.

That's when Jack fired an arrow at him to hit him while he couldn't move. Unfortunately, Thomas used his dagger and deflected the arrow while he was still in the air.

It takes pure focus to pull something like that. He was definitely more skilled than the others.

Once he landed on the ground, I went in to stab him. I used my multi-stab technique, but he vanished before I could land a hit on him.
