Chapter 72: Saving a Friend

-Vlad's POV-

The red-haired woman got everyone to where I was, so I quickly explained to them what was going to happen.

"Listen up. You guys are going to help me save Damien. You try anything that'll get him killed, and I'll end your life myself."

I wasn't in the mood for their crap, so I kept it short and simple.

You screw around, you die. Plain and simple as that.

Now then, the people who were with me was the demon, the elf, the red-haired woman, the ninja neko, and the others that Amy and I were fighting. When I told them what was going to happen, they all nodded.

Good. At least they're competent enough to listen to reason.

While this was happening, Damien just stood there watching us with a grin on his face. It was really creepy if I was being honest.

Anyway, once everyone understood that their lives were at a stake by both Damien and me, we quickly got down to business.

"Anyone with ranged weapons will support us while the rest of us do frontal attacks. We need to keep Damien busy for at least five minutes, seven at most. Once the time is up, Amy will step in and take Damien down. After that, you idiots are going to pay for what you did to him, and if any of you think of fleeing, I'll end your pathetic life before you get a running start."

The others quickly nodded at my threat, and we went into action.

Me, Zemmi, Van, Lura, and the others then charged at Damien. By the way, before we rushed in, the red-haired girl and the others gave me their names.

I didn't really care at the moment, but it'll help with communications, so it's fine.

Anyway, once we got close to Damien, we all quickly attacked him at once. Unfortunately, Damien had a barrier that protected him.

He gave us an evil grin and swung Thana at us. We were able to block his attack, but the force of it pushed us back.

We quickly landed on our feet and tried to think up a new strategy. Damien just stood there while we did that.

There's something off here. How come Damien isn't attacking like before?

It's like he's testing us. But for what?

I looked at Amy, who was concentrating on her spell. Why isn't Damien attacking Amy?

I was so curious about what Damien was doing, I walked over to him and asked him. I know, it was pretty stupid, but I couldn't help it.

"Damien, are you in there?"

He looked at me with a confused expression but realized what was going on.

"Oh, so you're planning on trying to get through to me with reasoning, huh? Sorry, but it's a lot more fun fighting you guys."

His words shook me. He sounded very rational, but also irrational. What the hell is wrong with him?

"Why are you doing this? Why are you attacking us?"

"First off, you guys attacked me first. I was just idling watching you guys until you rushed at me. Also, did you really think that all of you attacking me at the same time would work? Or were you just desperate?" He cackled.

This isn't Damien. Damien was a cool-headed person that shouldn't be messed with, but the Damien standing in front of me was some laughing, maniacal lunatic.

Sure, Damien would show a sinister smile, but nothing like what he's doing now.

It has to be the thing's doing. The one that's still hovering over him.
