Chapter 47: The Past of a Child of Zerris

When I opened my eyes, I found myself in a wide grassy field.

How did I end up here? I got up to look around and saw nothing but the vast green field.

In the distance, I saw three people. I walked over to get a closer look and what I saw shocked me.

It was a family. There was the dad wearing round glasses and wore a worn-out shirt and pants.

The mom wore a light blue dress and had long brown hair. She was currently playing with what looked like her daughter, who was wearing a pure white dress.

Only, their daughter was the oddest out of the bunch. The reason why is the color of her hair.

While both the little girl's parents had brown hair, she had a hair color that was said to be evil and bad luck.

Her hair was black. It was just as black as the void itself.

The little girl could be no older than eight years old, yet something told me that she was going to go through a rough time.

Hang on a second. Why the hell am I even here?

This is clearly a dream of sorts, otherwise, this family would notice me. It feels like I'm just watching from the sidelines and I'm not actually there.

As I thought about this, I continued to watch the little happy family play around with each other. They were laughing and enjoying their time together.

For some reason, I felt . . . Envious.

I quickly banished those thoughts and continued to figure out what was going on.

Suddenly, everything went black again. The next thing I knew, I found myself in some cabin house.

I think I was in the hallway. I looked around and saw the little girl with black hair from before.

She was peeking in one of the rooms. When I got closer, I started to hear two voices.

"We can't keep hiding like this, Ben."

"What do you expect me to do? The entire towns looking for us because of Emily."

"I know, but we can't keep doing this over and over again."

"Unfortunately, we have no choice. If we want to keep our daughter safe, we need to stay hidden from the world."

Both the little girl, aka Emily, and I watched as her parents talked to one another.

It sounds like they're on the run. I guess I can see that since Emily has black hair.

Those with black hair were said to be Children of Zerris. Due to that, if a child was born with black hair, then they were instantly disposed of.

It seems that the two parents managed to save their daughter from that. But, something tells me that this isn't going to end well.

Once again, my entire vision goes black. When I was able to see again, I immediately wished I hadn't.

Standing in front of me was a burning cabin, and behind me was an angry mob. They had torches, pitchforks, swords, and other weapons.

"Burn it down! Burn it all down!" One of the people in the mob started to shout.

When that happened, everyone else started to say it too.

Wait, Emily . . . What happened to her?!

I rushed to the burning cabin and looked around, that's when I saw the two parents lying on the ground. They were all burned up and bloody.

Emily, on the other hand, seemed fine. She was a little burned here and there, but nothing major.
