Chapter Fourteen Campfire

~Isabelle's P.O.V~

It had been hours. He just laid there, weak and helpless. I couldn't watch, I mustn't. It was just too much. You could just hear his ragged breathing. You couldn't escape it, no matter how hard you close your eyes. I was sitting there watching him. The images of him falling kept replaying in my head. Where was a witty comment, a sly smile, a surprise attack. It was sitting there waiting, waiting inside of him.

"Isabelle, you can't spend all night watching Archer." Alexander laughed as I turned my head away from Archer, my cheeks felt rosy and warm. I looked over at Alexander and Emeline. They were sitting around a big fire, enjoying conversation. I stood up from the ground and walked over to them. They were a very interesting couple to say the least. Alexander was kind, courageous, a man you wouldn't see in armor but with wife and child. A good man. Then Emeline was very quiet, and witty. She was the type of women that you would see lost forever in her travels and adventures. They were perfect for each other.

"Come Isabelle join us." Alexander beckoned. I nodded my head taking my place next to Emeline. I sat there looking into the fire, feeling it's homey warmth, it's welcoming glow. It was lovely. I smiled a bit thinking of my comfy castle, my brother would open me with open arms when I return. My parents, and their faces. It all kept me somewhat calm. "Isabelle, would you like to try?" Alexander asked as he drew me from my thoughts. I looked at him for a second coming back to the present. "What?" I asked quietly as I moved part of my hair from my eyes.

Alexander smiled as he handed me a small stone bowl. "Try the mind concealing trick?" He asked again as his hand lay on the log. Emeline entwined her hand with his. I nodded my head. I looked at them for a second, and then my eyes looked down at the stone bowl full of cooked grasses and mushrooms. I looked at it for a second, thinking about what it is. Though does it really matter? I grabbed some and put it quickly into my mouth. I didn't realize how hungry I really was till now. It was at the least satisfying. At the Least...

"Okay well Emeline let's begin." Alexander said as he smiled. Emeline nodded her head looking down into the fire, just like I had moments before. She began to whisper something and close her eyes. She reached her hand forward into the fire. I jumped and shook as I watched her twirl her hand in the fire then pick up some of the ask. She brought it out and kept it a lit in her hand. She was unburned.

"Look into the fire. See, listen, remember." Emeline whispered as I leaned towards the fire that was in her hands looking into it. I could see the flames dance showing me something. Then I saw it.

() Flashback ()

A little girl gliding down the stone walls of a castle. Her long brown hair swung to her steps. While she sang a song loudly. She wore a beautiful blue dress as she went along. It was so graceful. I smiled, I knew this girl. She was me.

She began to sing louder "On the North castles lies the King in his bed, going westward and sleeping. She finds a peeping. Now on the moon-lit night he surrenders his plunder and might!" She began to sing as she kept walking. Suddenly a lot of yelling broke out. She looked around, scared. This little 5 year old girl quaked in fear. Another second went by and a ran into the same hallway she was in. It was her father. The King.

"Isabelle!" He yelled, fear in his voice, as he scooped her up in her arms. He took off again with the girl in his arms. She got closer to his chest as she shacked with fear. The king could run. They ducked into a small room, the west library. They hid behind a large bookcase. The girl knew of a little crack that was in the bookcase. She looked through it watching the door.

A dark cloaked figure came in with a large beast at his side. He moved smoothly, almost like water, as he went around the room. Searching. His beast at his side was a large wolf. As tall as a young man and wide as a horse. It was something you could never forget.

"Don't worry, we still have the son." The cloaked man barked at the beast, which stood inches away from discovering the king and princess. They moved out quickly. The king and girl stood there for a while. Then they ran out. Till they came to the mouth of a hallway. There in the center of it was the prince. Prince Hennery. He laid with his eyes closed, his throat had a large slash to it as it blood pooled around him.

"HENNERY!" The girl yelled as she began to go towards him. "HENNERY!" She yelled again.

() End of Flashback ()

I watched as the fire replayed my memories. I couldn't watch anymore. "I'm done." I yelled as I turned away from Alexander and Emeline. "Well we all better get some shut eye." Alexander said as I turned back around to them .

Alexander laid down sheltering Emeline with her cloak and his hands. They laid one, together. I watched them for a second then my eyes went back to Archer. He was still asleep. I sighed as I watched the fire. I began to hum a song, the same song I had sung when Hennery died.

~Archer's P.O.V~

The dark was taking over. A silent soft hum, leaves blowing, the bubbling brook in the distance. I was sleeping. Pain was still everywhere, it was a constant nightmare. I groaned as I opened my eyes sitting up. I looked around to see it was the dead of night. I stood up off the ground and walked forward towards a small little dying camp fire. There was Alexander, Isabelle, and Emeline. Alexander and Emeline were sleeping soundly as Isabelle was humming something to herself. I smiled, my smile was a mask for the pain. I walked up to Isabelle and I sat right down next to her. She slightly turned her head towards me then turned away. Almost instantly she turned back around and smiled.

"Archer!" She smiled as she began to stand up. I took her hand and brought her back down. She sat back down looking at me oddly. I smiled at her as I took off my cape. "Isabelle you need to sleep." I said plainly as I handed her my cape. She nodded her head as she wrapped it around her and laid down on the cool ground. I leaned back on the soil next to her and stared at the stars. I was lost, I have always been lost. But today I am lost in the stars.
