Begin Again

CHAPTER 37

Sitting on my bed I try to realize what happened. My mind is processing it. I look around me but I can't talk. Emma has been asking me what happened but I can't say it. She is sitting across from me, asking me every now and then what happened but I stay silent.

Her phone rings and she takes it out of her pocket.

"It's Jack. I'll call him later."

"No. Answer it. Ask him if he talked to Joe."

I respond and she picks it up.

"Hey. No, she won't tell me what happened. Alright. Let me ask her. Jack says if he could come upstairs."

She asks me and I nod positively my head.

"Come upstairs. Maybe you can get her to talk."

Emma says to Jack before hanging up the phone.

"Will you tell me what happened? Jack told me about some pictures but I didn't understand. What did you guys fought about that made you wonder around in the fields like crazy?"

"I'll tell you everything when Jack comes up. I don't want to have to say this twice."

"Alright. But one question before he comes, how bad is it?"

"What do you mean?"

"Is it just a fight or... it's permanent?"

"I hope for it to be the first one. But it's not up to me."

I respond and then we hear a knock on the door. Emma gets up and unlocks the door, letting Jack in.

Once he sees me, he come closer and sits next to me on the bed.

"What happened Anne? I've never seen him like that."

He says sounding very gentle and worried.

"I messed everything up."

"What do you mean?"

Jack asks me, not knowing what I mean.

"Did you tell him about the Alex thing?"

Emma asks and Jack looks at me curiously.

"What Alex thing? I am not following you girls. Anne...start from the beginning, please."

"When I was back home, I met up with Alex. He and I had something before I got here but it ended pretty quickly because I saw him kissing someone else."

"Okay... And Joe found out and he got mad?"

"No...It is more complicated than that Jack. Alex kissed me. I wanted to tell Joe on my own, but you got in and I missed my chance."

-Wait...If you didn't tell Joe, who did?

Emma asks and I look at Jack hoping that he'll make the connection.

"Oh my God... Mrs. Campbell?"

Jack says and I nod.

"What? How did she find out?"

"The pictures..."

Jack says to Emma and she is in shock.

"Mrs. Campbell had someone follow me around during Christmas. She even did a background check on me."

I say realizing how twisted this is and I feel the anger filling me up. I never saw that coming.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes. She got in the house and gave Joe a whole pack of information on me and my family. And she also had pictures. Pictures of everyday during Christmas, including that day I met with Alex."
