A/n: wowe look at me pushing all my depressing ass feelings about L into a oneshot. At least some of you can relate. Also I filled in the meme on my instagram, I've claimed L, I'll share him tho.
Head canon: none for this one.
This is so fucking frustrating. Loving someone that doesn't love you back, that doesn't know you exist, that isn't even real. The human mind is strange thing, even when someone is nothing but moving lines on a screen, we can still fall head over heels for them. Why do our brains torture us like this?
You just wanna have him exist. That's all, you won't ask for much, just that he's happy.
It's the little things you want.
Listening to early 2000s love songs while taking long drives, tucking him into bed when he actually decides to sleep for once, walk down the streets under an umbrella as it rains holding hands.
Most people have wanted a love story like Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, or a fluffy coffee shop AU fanfic, but alas some of us won't reach that because our minds will only settle for those who are too perfect for this world, that they literally don't exist.
This world is too bad for them, they're too good for our world, so they stay in their own.
That's a fan girls life, fall for a fictional character, die inside when you realise you can't have them, and fill the void with fan fiction.
In this case the person of interest is a sugar addicted superb angel baby detective that goes by the 12th letter of the alphabet.
Yes, L... that noodle with insomnia.
He may not be a stereotypical bishi, but he had an odd charm to him that free many viewers in.
Like you, like the people who supply you with fanfics, like the one writing this now.
You had a void in your life only he could fill, but how could he fill it if he doesn't exist?
Its depressing.
Very depressing.
People find loving fictional characters weird, or creepy or stupid, but the thought that the character actually means something to the fan, the character had helped them get where they are today, the characters fictional existence is enough to make a fan genuinely happy when no one else will, that thought never crosses their mind.
So, how do you fill a void that only one work of fiction can fill?
Surely, there's a way.
I mean, there's that place in Japan that lets you have a VR wedding with anime girls exists... but it's not quite right... it doesn't fit.
There's a clear line between real and fiction, we know it exists, but we have a problem of trying to pull the people on the other side of the line to ours.
That void... it hurts sometimes...
You stared at the roof, wondering if there was some way you could fill that void, even just for a little bit. There had to be a way...
There was a knock on the door, probably the mailman with your online shopping. You got up, walking to the door and unlocking it, you opened it, but before you could even say something, you were cut off.
"Ok, I know this sounds stupid but you're my favourite character and I don't want to see you suffer like this anymore, I know how the story ends and I'm here to change it"
"What are you-"
Wait a minute...
The hair... the clothes... the eyebags... that voice...
No, it's not possible.
"Ok, haha, which one of you is this and how the hell did you style a wig that good? Like damn my cosplay sucks compared to yours" you said, thinking it was a friend pranking you or something.
"Cosplay? I'm not in a cosplay? Look, (y/n), I know you won't believe me but I want to change the way your book ends, please trust me"
You let the words sink in. Was he lying? He sounded pretty genuine...
You stared at him, looking him up and down, taking in all the features. They were indisputable, and that voice, it was a perfect match.
This was the real thing.
You felt tears start to fall down your cheeks, the void felt filled, like your finally found a missing puzzle piece.
"Wha- Hey what's wrong?" He said, a look of concern on his face.
"L... L Lawliet... y-you... you can't be-"
His concern changed to shock.
"You... know my name?"
Without thinking, you wrapped your arms around him, burying your face into his shirt.
"You're real... how the hell are you real!" You said.
Everything seemed to click on his mind. If you were fictional in his world, then he must be fictional in your world, if you were his favourite, then he was yours. He sighed and wrapped his arms around you in return.
"It's a long story... I just wanted to change your books ending... I'm guessing my story doesn't end well either?" He said.
You looked up at him and shook your head, teary eyed.
"I don't want you to die again..."
He took a moment to process that. He died in his story?
"I...I don't want to die..." he said in a small voice.
"I'm not letting you! Please don't go back to your story, I don't want anything bad to happen" you replied.
He put his hands on your shoulders and gave you a smile.
"How about I help you change the end of your story, I stop all the bad things that happen in your life, then you come with me and stop me from dying? We can fix each others lives and write a new ending" he suggested.
It was all good with you, it was all you wanted, for him to be happy, and live a long, fun life full of candy and a good sleep schedule.
You smiled up at him, wiping the tears from your eyes.
"Sounds like a plan"
