AU: high school

Just as every other day was, it was a boring as hell day at school. Nothing was happening, there hadn't been a bash in a while which was good but you knew it wouldn't last long. At least when a bash happens it gives you something to think about.

But nope, absolutely nothing was happening. It was nearing the end of the year too, so class was dead. All your finals were being marked so everything was just busy work. At least you get to graduate next year...

And at least the year 11s get to leave a few weeks earlier than the other kids. The lucky ass year 12s were already gone as they had their graduation a few weeks ago.

Just a few more days and you'd be free to sleep all summer.

Although... maybe you'd have something to do this summer...

Over the year you'd made friends with a boy that sits next to you, Ryuzaki. You hadn't talked much outside of school, he said he died outside of school stuff so he doesn't really have time to talk after school. He never told you what exactly it was he did, but he would kill it in PE, even though he looked like a skinny noodle that just rolled out of bed, he was amazing at tennis and can really pack a kick. So you just assumed he did sport or something.

But now that holidays was coming maybe you could hang out with him more?

"Hey did you hear? That human trafficking group that was on the news was caught!"

"No way! Was it the FBI that got them?"

"No it was L! He's insane, he's probably solved thousands of cases..."

Ah, L. The kids that sat in front of you wanted to be police officers, so they talked about crime a lot. And when there's crime, there's L. That mysterious detective that no one knows the true identity of. He got really popular in the last four years, as he solved some really really high profile crimes.

You knew a lot about L's work from listening to those kids, it was actually kind of interesting.

"(Y/n)?"

You looked up, seeing the teacher looking down at you.

"Hm? Oh- here" you said.

"I know it's last period but don't fall asleep just yet"

The teacher looked at the empty desk next to you.

"And of course, Ryuzaki is late again"

He turned to finish the roll and just as he did, Ryuzaki ran through the door and skidded into his seat.

"Late again Ryuzaki" the teacher scolded.

"Sorry" he replied.

"Like it or not there's still a few days left, no excuses just yet"

When the teacher turned away, Ryuzaki just rolled his eyes. He didn't like this teacher that much. As you thought, it was just busy work. The teacher started to ramble on about history that wasn't even on the curriculum and you immediately zoned out. You pushed your desk over to Ryuzakis and pulled your bag up to your lap.

"I bought cupcakes. My parents are going away for the next few days so my mum stocked me up" you said, pulling out your lunchbox.

"Yes, your mum makes the best damn cupcakes" he replied, taking one and making sure the teacher wasn't looking before eating it almost in one go.

"Hey, wanna hang on the holidays? I'm not doing anything and surely your after school stuff would stop for holidays right?" You asked.
