A/n: when I was writing the dance part, this song immediately came to my mind ^^
You'd successfully been sneaking into the castle grounds with L for six months now. The meetings with the Yagami kingdom were getting more and more frequent but L still found a way to sneak you inside. So far you hadn't been caught, you're lucky.
You'd found the best way in and around the castle undetected. Over the back wall, through the garden weaving through the trees, use the scaffolding on the back wall of the castle to get to the balcony connected to L's room. The only problem was getting past the young princes shared room window undetected, but you'd been successful so far.
Unbeknownst to you, L had caught major feelings for you. He could tell that you were the perfect woman for him and he'd realised something. If you married him into the royal family, you wouldn't have to pay off your debt anymore, you'd stop having to sneak into the castle and you'd get to be together every day. If you were a princess, eventually a queen, you could live the life you wanted to live, singing to the world alongside the man of your dreams.
You wouldn't have to endure the pain of childbirth either as the young princes would end up your children.
The only problem was that a royal marrying a commoner was unheard of. The public wouldn't care much, but the royal family? Neighboring kingdoms? They'd have your head.
So it seems your little sneaking about sessions would stay the way they were, at least for now. Your love was forbidden but you'd find a way around it.
You lifted yourself over the balcony and landed with a thud, getting up and brushing your gown off.
"Elegant"
You looked up to find L looking down at you.
"I'm just so graceful aren't I?" You joked back.
You sat next to him on the chairs overlooking the back garden.
"How was work?" He asked.
"Awful, some dumbass didn't press the hems AND I had to thread beads by hand onto a ball gown, it took me almost all day" you replied.
"That mustn't be good for your back"
"It's not. But look whose talking Mr slouch. Aren't princes meant to be standing straight?"
He playfully pushed you, knowing you were right.
"I have back issues come on" he laughed.
"Maybe you should be the one wearing a corset?" You replied.
"Oh god no, I don't know how you girls handle that"
You laughed at his words, you really enjoyed his company, and you'd be lying if you said you hadn't caught any feelings.
But a pauper in love with a royal was unheard of. But hey, the prince was risking being in massive trouble by sneaking around with you, maybe there was really something there?
You were the only commoner to see a royal out of the fancy suits, just sitting casually in his pyjamas. You were the only commoner to see a royal without their crown, it sat in a case inside and not on his messy hair. You were the only commoner to see what a royal was really like, behind the proper speech and royal rules.
Surely, there was something there. The prince loved your presence, your smile lighting up his world and the sound of your songs being the best thing to ever bless his ears.
"(Y/n)... can I admit something?" He asked.
"Sure, what is it?" You replied.
"I know if this got out, so much would be against us... but I can't fight it any longer..."
You turned to face him, slightly confused.
"I love you, (y/n). I really do... even if our situation forbids us to be together, I'll find some way around it. I promise"
You felt your cheeks heat up, he returned your feelings? But he was a royal, and you were just a poor seamstress!
"L... I- I love you too... I didn't think you'd ever see some poor seamstress like that..."
"I don't care what you are, I love you the same. I'll do everything in my power to figure out a way for us to be together. Think about it, if you married me into the family, you wouldn't have to be a seamstress anymore, no debt to pay off and you could sing to the whole world and no one would be there to stop you"
Becoming a princess? If he could get the royals to allow it, it might just work. You'd finally be free of debt, you could live your dream, you could be with the one you loved. It would all be prefect that way.
"I'd love that, but I don't know how to be a princess..." you said.
"Well, it's not that hard... you just have to be completely detached from your emotions" he joked.
You giggled and took his hands, he pulled you to your feet and stepped into the centre of the balcony.
"Like this, back straight, chin up, hands in front, smile politely..."
He moved your arms, pushed your back up and tilted your head slightly.
"Curtsy to every lord, lady and royal, use the correct spoons for each meal, pose for portraits and never flinch..."
"It sounds difficult. But if we could actually make it happen I'd love to try" you said.
"Once you get used to it, it becomes habit, but most importantly..."
He took your hands and pulled you in, placing one on your waist and laced his fingers with yours with the other.
"You have to know how to waltz, there's many balls this time of year"
You watched how he stepped, following his patterns and stepping back and forth in a box shape. It wasn't that hard actually, you soon started to get the hang of it.
"That's it, you're good at this!" He smiled.
You danced around the balcony, laughing at the few mistakes you made and enjoying your time as he twirled you around, dipped you and lifted you up. That waltz ended up an elaborate ballet you both made up on the spot, but seemed completely in sync with.
It was moments like these you longed for, they were the times you knew just how in love you were with each other. You twirled to a stop, smiling at each other.
"If I get to do that as a princess, I'll definitely accept the offer" you smiled.
"I'll do whatever it takes, even if you aren't officially a princess, you'll always be my princess"
With those words, you leaned in for a gentle kiss. The most amazing moment of your life, that kiss told you there was hope for you, you'd be out if that damn dress shop one day. With L around you knew that.
"L?"
You both jumped, seperating from the kiss and turning to see a small, sleepy boy with fluffy white hair, carrying a teddy bear.
And that would be the youngest... prince Near.
"U-uh..." L stammered.
"Is that who keeps climbing past the windows?" He asked.
Shit... he saw you? You could have sworn the boys were asleep.
"You can't tell anyone, ok?" L said, ducking down to the boys height.
"Why not?"
"Because she's not royal, but I'm going to make her royal one day ok? Keep it a secret because it's a surprise for everyone else"
The boy processed that for a moment.
"Ok... can I dance with you guys?"
You smiled, you liked this boys vibe.
"Of course you can"
