Head canon: around taskforce L is emotionless. The only think that would ever make him crack is if you were upset.

Why did you have to be the unluckiest person on the face of the earth?

It started with something small, a few weeks ago you forgot your headphones. It was a minor inconvenience but it was the start of a chain of bad luck. The next thing that happened was your car breaking down, then you got sick, then you were robbed... but today was the worst of them all.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...

You were gloomily doing your work when you got a phone call from your sister, she knew you were doing important things so it must be important.

"Hey, what's up?" You said, answering the phone.

You probably shouldn't be on the phone in the middle of the Kira case but this could be important.

"(Y/n)... somethings happened"

She sounded like she was crying, you instantly went into panic mode.

"(S/n)? Hey what's wrong?"

"It's mum..."

"Mum?"

"She... she flatlined last night... she's died"

You didn't know what to say, but it felt like everything around you just stopped. It was like your whole life was flashing before your eyes. You instantly knew that in your state, there was no way you'd be able to make it to the funeral either.

"W-what?" You asked, your voice breaking.

The crack in your voice caught L's attention, he turned to look at you. When he saw the tears starting to fall down your cheeks, he began to get worried.

"S-she died form a heart infection. It was only found minutes before she died... she told me that she loved us, that she wanted us to stay happy and safe... she wanted me to tell you she loves you..."

You tried to hold back your sobs.

"Was it... peaceful?" You asked.

"Yes... painless. She died in her sleep"

That made you feel a tiny bit better but not much... you already missed her so much.

"I'll call you back tonight ok? I have to break the news to the kids..."

You suddenly remembered your sisters kids... you didn't know how that's take it since it was the first major death in the family for them.

"O-ok..."

After a quick goodbye, you hung up. You couldn't help it anymore and without thinking, or even caring the taskforce were watching, you burst into tears, sobbing violently and feeling nothing but pain. And that's when L's emotionless act broke.

He didn't care the taskforce were watching, he couldn't stand to see you like this.

He jumped out of his chair and ran over to you, pulling you into a hug you instantly accepted as you began to cry into his chest.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

You were too much of a mess to even compose the words.

The taskforce just stared in confusion. They felt bad knowing something bad had happened to you, but they also were shocked to see L suddenly acting compassionate toward someone.

L? Of all people?

"Hey, Hey, breathe... tell me what happened"

You tried as best as you could to steady your breathing and it all came pouring out.
