Chapter 36- Taken

Lego

"Mitch... Sige na." Pangungulit ko kay Michelle kung saang lugar man sila nandoon ni Brix.
"What will you do in our office? Lego, ano nakain mo?" Natatawang tanong ni Michelle after kong ipaliwanag ang gusto kong mangyari.
"I not asking you to pay me. Just give me a pass to go inside of HR Department."
"Lego, mabubwisit lang si Rose sa iyo." Sabi niya.
"She's already angry with me... wala ng mawawala kung itotodo ko na di ba?"
"Hindi siya galit sa'yo for the record." Pagtatama ni Michelle.
"Just hurting, I know. Please Michelle, ninang ka ng magiging anak namin sa future."
"Wala ka namang choice kundi maging ninang ako." She snorted at the other line then she giggled.
"Okay, give me your email, I will send an email to the HR Manager and inform her you will be an intern under Rose." She gave in.
"Yes, thank you, Michelle. I owe you."
"Yes, you owe me. Maniningil ako sa future. Goodluck Lego." Sabi niya.

Kinabukas, all is set sa plano ko. Pumasok ako sa office nila Mitch at hinanap ang HR Manager.
"Mas mukha kang manager kaysa sa akin sa ayos mo." Nakaismid na puna nito. Pake ko sa iyo?
Tiningnan niya ang suot kong suit.
"Follow me." Sabi nito.
Ikinabit ko ang pin na supossedly name ko ang nakalagay sa left side ng dibdib ko.

"Rose, you have an intern to train." Sabi ng HR Manager kay Rose. Nanlaki ang mata ni Rose ng makita ako.
"This is..." Binasa ng HR Manager ang name tag ko.
"TAKEN? Iyan ba ang pangalan mo?" Masungit na tanong niya.
"No. But I am taken in case everybody would ask." Sagot ko.
"Train him. Boss orders." Sabi nito at iniwan kami.

"Anong kalokohan ito?" Walang ganang tanong ni Rose.
Ngumiti lang ako. Mukhang naasar si Rose.
"At bakit ganyang ang nametag mo?"
"Taken na kasi ako." Sagot ko.
Nakatingin sa amin ang ibang ka-office niya.
"Hindi mo tatanungin kung sino?" Hopeful na tanong ko.
Inirapan ako ni Rose at bumalik sa table niya.

"Sino nakabihag sayo?" Tanong ng isang game n aka-office niya.
"Siya." Tinuro ko si Rose at nagtuksuhan sila. Namumulang si Rose... huwag naman sana sa galit at baka atakihin sa puso.
"Tumigil ka nga!" She said thru gritted teeth.
"Nope, sorry I won't stop," I replied. Kinuha ko ang isang rose sa loob ng suit ko at inilapag sa harapan niya. She looked at me with confused eyes.

"Diyos ko, Rose. Kapag hindi mo sinagot yan, pwedeng akin na lang?" Tanong ng isang kasama niya.
"Pasensya na, sa kanya lang talaga natibok ang puso ko." Sagot ko.
Dumukmo si Rose para itago ang mukha.

Sabi ni Tito Marcus, napasagot daw niya si Tita Kath thru letters and flowers. Payo naman ni Tito P, ang tamang babae, hindi nasisilaw ng pera kaya huwag magpakitang gilas sa material things. Kailangan daw effort talaga. Sabi naman ni Tito Renz, a parents blessing is important too. But in Rose case, kahit daw walang hiya ang tatay ni Rose, I need to face him either to defend Rose from him or to ask him for Rose hand. Tito Red said to put the woman you love at the top of your priority list. Tito Kyle also told me that I should know how to defend my woman. Either from the outside world or from her own thoughts. And lastly, daddy said to make her feel that she is not competing with anyone. Especially not to my past because it will destroy us.

So now, I need to make amends to those you hurt me. I am ready to let go of the rope that I am holding for too long.

I went to Kyla's parent one night. Tita Estella was surprised to see me.
"Lego," She hugged me and cried.
"Can I come in, Tita?"
"Please come in. I am happy to see you." Sabi niya.
I look around their house and I thought, oo nga, hindi ko napakilala si Kyla officially sa family ko. I didn't even bring her to the Country Club. Lagi lang kaming nakatambay dito sa bahay nila. Her pictures are still at their family wall. As I look into it, I can say that I am complete healed.

"Lego," May kalungkutan sa mata ni Tita Estella.
"I just came here Tita to say that I already forgave Kyla and probably your family."
Naiyak muli si Tita Estella.
"It took me few years Tita but here I am... healed at last."
Niyakap ulit ako ni Tita Estella. "I'm sorry, Lego. I know we hurt you in the process of protecting her."
"I understand now Tita. Things happen for a reason. Cliché as it may sound but it's probably the right explanation. If not for Kyla, I won't have my Rose."
Nangiti si Tita Estella. "I'm happy to hear you two are getting along."
Natawa ako. "Hindi pa Tita. Galit pa siya sa akin dahil sa mga nasabi ko noong huling pagkikita namin. Although kung close kayo sa kanya baka pwedeng ilakad nyo na ako? Ang tigas kasi ng ulo, Tita eh."

My mom said that she believes that our own destiny is already written since the day we were born. And I asked her if that would be the case, why we still meet the wrong person in our life? And she answered; that's what we called living. That's the beauty of our life. It teaches us to appreciate our destiny by showing us how wrong the other choices.

Kyla died so Rose can live. Kyla showed me how painful to be left behind so I can appreciate the one who will come after her. The one that is destined to be with me. Kyla showed me how painful to be played so I can value the one will come after her.

Noah is another story. When I went to his parents' house, the atmosphere is heavy.
"Tito Noel," Bati ko sa daddy niya pagbukas ng pintuan.
"What do you want, Lego? My son is already dead." Sabi nito.
"And I already forgave him. But I didn't come in here to talk about Noah. I came here to talk about Rose."
"I only have one child. And that is Noah." He replied and closed the door on my face.
"Then, I am glad to hear it from you." I shouted from the door. "I will marry her and you will not come near her anymore. You can't hurt her anymore."

Noah may not be a true friend to me but Rose is a different person. They may have the same blood in veins but they have different upbringing. While Noah is selfish, I know that Rose... she is a giver. She is my healer.

Hindi ako nagsasawang lagyan ng bulaklak ang table ni Rose. Dalawang linggo na akong "NANLILIGAW" sa kanya. Hindi nga ako nakakakuha ng kahit isang ngiti man lang.

"Nasaan si Rose?" Tanong koi sang umaga sa kasamahan niya.
Nakunot ang noo nito.
"Nasa hospital..."
"What? Saang hospital?"
"Sa PGH yata." Naguguluhang sagot nito.
Hindi ko na tinapos ang sasabihin niya. I run as fast as I can and drive like a lumatic. Bloody hell, what happened to her? Akala ko maaga lang umalis kaya hindi ko naabutan sa bahay niya kanina.

Fuck...Fuck...

Abot langit kaba ko habang nagmamaneho. Oh God, let her be okay. Let her be okay.
