Jaehyun got a call at 11 am during work. His phone said it was from Doyoung, but the voice on the other end wasn't the voice of his friend.

"Jay," Doyoung's mother spoke in an almost incomprehensible voice.

"Ms. Kim?" He questioned. "Is everything alright? Is Doy alright?" He panicked for his friend. Doyoung had been so happy for the past couple of months. His mind started to race with all the possibilities of what happened to Doyoung.

"No," she paused, taking a deep breath. He could tell she has been building up strength to call him. "it's not alright." Doyoung's mom was crying, she couldn't seem to hold back her tears. Jaehyun could tell she was breaking into pieces with every word she spoke. In his mind, this could only mean one thing. Doyoung was gone.

"Is he dead?" Jaehyun barely whispered. He backed into the wall of the room he was in to steady himself. He didn't want any of his coworkers to hear him, but he needed to know if Doyoung was alive.

"No, not Doyoung." His mother hardly said before her cries overtook her. Jaehyun breathed a sigh of relief, pulling the phone slightly away from his ear so he could pull himself back together. Stray tears of relief began to fall from his eyes. He wiped away each one the moment it fell but soon he wasn't able to stop them. Doyoung's mom could finally breath again.

"It's Yeri." She breathed in a choked breath. The moment Jaehyun heard the next six words, he could feel his heart fall from his chest, taking him down, making his body limp.
"She got in a car accident."

Jaehyun felt his legs go out, the next thing he knew he was resting against the pale wall with his phone pressed to his ear. "Is she-," Jaehyun tried to speak but he couldn't will himself to say the next words. He already knew the answer.

"She's gone. Jay, she's dead." She finished strongly.

Jaehyun's body was immobile. Anger and sadness mixed together to create the only emotion flowing through his brain. Time had stopped in this moment. Every small movement took a great deal of effort. Slowly he took his phone away from his ear, hanging up the call and using the remainder of his energy to throw his phone against the couch at the other side of the break room. He pulled his knees up to his chest, hugging them tight as if his life depended on it.

"This can't be true. Not Yeri. Anyone but Yeri." He pleaded quietly. He rocked slightly back and forth hoping it would calm him but it didn't. "Take me, Doyoung needs Yeri more than me. Let Yeri be alive and kill me instead." Jaehyun's normally beautiful face was traced with tears, lines of water taking new paths toward the ground. "Please, God, if you are real, take me instead. People need Yeri. Her parents, me, Doyoung. She doesn't deserve this. She's done nothing wrong. She deserves to live. She deserves to have a long life. Please... God?"

Most importantly, she was Doyoung's beacon of hope. His light that had prevented him from giving up on multiple occasions.

Jaehyun could never resemble her power. He couldn't convince Doyoung that he had so much worth, but Yeri could.
