Hayes POV
I found myself grasping Mackenzie's hand at her bedside. Well, her hospital bed side.
She's been in the coma since the accident. I'm really worried that she'll never wake up again.
Today I brought something for her to wear.
I reached into my pocket and got her promise ring. It still fit on her finger even though it was a bit swollen.
All that I could imagine was what was going through her mind right now...
Mackenzie's POV
For a while I've been sleeping in this beautiful field.
I haven't heard that random voice since I got here. Will it come back at all?
The sun was setting. There was an orange glow that was cast through the sky. I was walking around when suddenly something was different.
I turned around and there was a picnic table made out of wood.
As I approached the table I noticed that there was something enclosed in a little envelope. A piece of tape held it shut.
I sat down on one side of the picnic table. When I grabbed the envelope I carefully peeled the tape off of the paper.
Inside was a lined piece of paper. It was a letter.
Dear Mackenzie,
Did you ever think that you'd get here someday? That this was only a child's dream? We'll look at you, you're here right now at this very moment.
The most important thing that I would like to tell you about is possibly life changing. You can decide if you would like to live or die. But before you choose, there will be times where you can see what people down on earth are saying about you right now. Maybe that will make your decision clear. Your first video will be shown to you when the sun disappears. Happy choosing!
There was no name written on it. But...
If I live or if I die, it's all my deciding.
My stomach got a strange feeling in it. I began to shake and cry.
I dropped the letter and ran as far as my legs could take me. And then I collapsed onto my knees.
I was crying with my head in my knees when I heard a loud popping noise. When I looked up I realized that it was my first video.
Hayes appeared next to my hospital bed. He looked sad and gloomy.
Hayes took out the promise ring and slipped it on my swollen finger.
Examining myself, I looked pretty bad. Swollen face, stitches on my forehead, a cast on my whole left leg and my right arm. Even white wrap around the top of my head. I looked like a mummy.
Then he whispered something in my ear.
Don't you dare leave me.
Those words struck me hard. They stuck in my mind like a piece of chewed up gum.
The video cut off and fast forwarded. Up until Hayes was in bed. He was curled up under his blankets. A few sobs escaped from his mouth and then he sat up to look out the window.
He was staring at my house.
Damn it Mackenzie I mess up everything. I made you so unhappy and I cheated on you to many times to count on my fingers. You gave me more than 2 chances. Any guy would be lucky to have you. But I could understand if you left Earth. Even if you don't, please don't stop being you. And find somebody who loves you with all their heart.
He slid a finger down the window. After that it started raining so he just laid down and went to sleep.
The video disappeared all of a sudden. It gave me time to think.
Would I live or would I die?
