xlvi. uncle nick

When Peter was really young, his parents took him to their work quite often. They said that the place they worked at was called Shield and they were secret agents. 

Peter had never thought someone was as cool as his parents. Until he met the director of Shield! His parents had said to call him Fury but Peter didn't know why. Maybe it's because he looked grumpy. 

He grew to like Fury and chose to him around when he was supposed to be sitting at his parents' desks. Fury was annoyed with him at first but slowly started to look up to him. 

One day when Peter was almost four, his parents were flying somewhere and he was sitting in Fury's office, coloring with crayons on blank pieces of paper the man had given him.

"Hey Fury?" Peter asked, looking up with those adorable chocolate brown eyes. "Yes, Peter?" Fury responded without looking up from his work. "What's your real name?" Fury flicked his eyes toward the small boy. 

"Nick." He said simply. Peter's eyes lit up. "Can I call you Uncle Nick?"He asked excitedly. Fury hesitated for a second then shrugged. Peter smiled and kept drawing. It was a picture of him, his parents, and his new uncle.

It was later that day when Fury got a call and sadly told Peter the grave news; his parents were dead. Peter had never cried harder. He wanted to stay with his new uncle of course, because he knew him best, but Fury couldn't watch a kid when Peter had an aunt and uncle waiting for him. 

As Peter grew up, he never stayed far from his favorite uncle (sorry Ben). He visited Shield often and most of the agents knew him. Except for the two he really wanted to meet. 

Agent Romanova and Agent Barton were said to be the best but Peter never once got to meet them. Then he became Spider-Man and met Tony Stark and the rest of the Avengers. 

He never told them about his Uncle Nick because he figured they knew. That all changed when Fury showed up at the tower one day. 

Peter is currently hanging on the ceiling, laughing like he never had before as Sam, Clint, and Bucky try to get him down. Bucky chucks a shoe at him and Peter skips out of the way with a smile. 

"There's a spider on the ceiling!" Clint yells across the room. Peter rolls his eyes and hops down. Tony strolls into the room with the rest of the Avengers behind him. He looks very bored. 

"Eyepatch is here. He's got a mission for us." Tony says. Steve sighs. Peter frowns in confusion and hops down. "Who?" He asks. "Director Fury, you wouldn't know him." Steve explains. 

Peter's eyes light up and he grins as Fury walks into the room. "Uncle Nick!" He exclaims, running up and hugging him. The shellshocked Avengers starein awe. "What?" They all cry in unison.

Fury wraps an arm around Peter and smiles at him for a moment before returning his face to his normal scowl. "Uncle Nick?" Natasha asks with narrowed eyes. 

Peter nods. "I used to go with my mom and dad to work and Uncle Nick was there." He explains. Tony's eyebrows raise. "Your parents were Shield?" He asks. Peter nods obviously.

"Duh. They were on that Shield plane that crashed." They're all dumbfounded. Peter smiles and hugs Fury again. He smiles devilishly as the Avengers struggle for words.
