Three years old

Tony expects a lot of things. He expects to have hate. He expects to have fans. What he doesn't expect, is a business woman standing at his door with a crying toddler.

He quickly school his expression and raises a brow. "May I help you?" He asks with a smirk, looking her over. She's unamused. "This is Peter Parker. Your son." She says.

Tony nearly chokes on air. "My what now?!" He hisses. "You remember Mary Fitzgerald, yes?" She responds. Tony nod slowly, remembering the few nights he'd had with her before she'd fled without a word.

"Well she married Richard Parker while she was already pregnant. Peter was born, and your name is on his birth certificate." She explains. Tony looks down at the child. He had to be two or three years old.

Normally he probably would have done a thousand tests but those eyes... that kid is his. "What do I have to sign?" He asks hesitantly. The woman seems shocked at first but nods, letting go of the child's hand.

Tears well in the kid's eyes and he sniffles. As Tony is signing the papers he asks, "So what happened to Mary and Richard?" The woman smiles sadly and takes the forms from him. "They died in a plane crash." She informs him somberly.

That makes tears start to fall down Peter's face. He tugs at the social worker's skirt and whimpers something unintelligible. "What's that honey?" The woman asks softly.

"I want mama." He whines. Tony's heart shatters in his chest. "I'll be by tomorrow to drop off the rest of the paperwork." She says and walks off. Peter looks after her then back to Tony.

"Where's daddy?" He asks sadly. Tony crouches down with a sad smile. "Right here."

Four years old

Peter Stark has never been so scared. He's starting school today. School. That's got to be the scariest thing ever. "Why do I gotta go?" He complains to his dad while they're in the car.

Tony glances back to him. "To get smart, kid." Peter scrunches his face. "But I'm already smart." He points out. Tony laughs. "You are. But it's the law, so you have to go."

Peter rolls his eyes and crosses his arms. Tony grins. Peter was definitely his kid. Once they roll up, quite a few people stare. Peter frowns, looking out the window. Tony sighs. This would be Peter's first introduction to the public.

"It'll be alright bud." He says, parking the car. He climbs out and ignores the immediate recognition of tons of kids and parents. He opens Peter's door and reaches for his seatbelt. Peter frowns and hits his hands away.

"I can do it. I'm a big boy now." He says. Tony nods with an amused smile and steps back. After about three and a half minutes, Peter finally frees himself from the cloth death trap and climbs out of the car. He hefts his bag over his shoulders and grabs his dad's hand and they walk inside.

Everyone murmurs excitedly around them and Peter sticks to his dad's side. "Alright bud, I'm going to talk to the teacher while you head inside, Okay?" Tony says softly. Peter looks up at him with wide eyes.

"You're leaving?" He asks incredulously. "Yes, Peter. I'll be back later to pick you up and you can tell me all about your day." Tony explains. Peter holds his hand tighter.

"Don't go." He begs. Tony sighs. "I have to. If I don't Pepper will be mad at us. We don't want that do we?" He teases. Peter's eyes widen and he shakes his head. When Pepper was mad at him he got in trouble.
